Standing in line to check out at Sam's can be averted with scan and go on their app. IMO one of the most convenient in store apps I've used. https://www.samsclub.com/content/scan-and-go

Was in Sam's Club yesterday, their gallons of milk was $3.60, it's 2.50 at Walmart, what's up with some items at Sam's Club being more expensive? Then you have to try to find boxes to put your items in, most of the time there are none, then you have to stand in a long line to check out and then a long line to check out again when they inspect your cart before leaving

Do you mind explaining more about Costco? Every time I go in there when it's time to checkout if I'm not the person on the card they say I'm not allowed to purchase anything but at Sam's I use the app get in and purchase items nonstop; in-person, online, in-store, at the registers.

You are correct about the milk. I'd have to after the the other items you mentioned though.....my Sam's has 3 or 4 huge carts that are always overflowing with boxes. I also use the app and use scan and go and it's a huge convenience. Yes I still have to stand in line from time to time to get checked at the door but the store near me usually will add more staff very wui6if the lines get out of hand. I'm wondering your local store just soecif6has bad management. $15 is a great deal for this, slick deal!

If you have a gift card to Costco, You can use it to make your purchase regardless if you have an actual membership or not. And if the purchase is more than the balance on the gift card, you can use a debit card for the balance owed. So if you have somebody buy you some $10 (or whatever amount) gift cards, you can just use those instead of paying for a membership.
Will a debit, visa credit, or cash work for the balance? Then just buy another $10 gift card to get in next time? Will the gift card work at the gas pump without membership card?

Sam's Club does not offer TopTier gasoline which is important to know. This is an additive, similar to Techs in, that helps keep internal parts clean... Only use Sam's Club gasoline when traveling on road trips through most of Western TX and NM.

Prices are higher for most things when compared to Costco. I have found a few things priced less than Costco. Returns are not as easy as Costco. Employees are not as knowledgeable. Self-load your own cart during checkout so you can not watch for cashier errors. Tire&battery service is mostly unprofessional.

Everyone should try it for $15
In California and I've had almost the opposite experience with Sam's.

Off the top of my head, All laundry detergent, greek yogurt and packaged lens wipes are cheaper. Sam's has a better selection of affordable shampoo and Member's Mark TP is not only cheaper but better quality than Kirkland. Eggs are about the same price.

Returns are super easy and there's never a line. Employees are about equal, but unlike Costco Sam's actually labels their shelves so you can find your way around better anyway.

Scan & Go straight up eliminates cashier errors. New tires take 30 mins to install compared to Costco taking 2.5 hours with appointment.

Most of the time they're the same price as warehouse prices but you have to pay for shipping. But with plus you get free shipping which is worth it for me since I get 2% back and a lot of things I need are available to ship to me at no additional cost, unlike costco.
Thank you — I have Walmart plus for free which has free shipping as well but if Amex ever stops giving me free W+then I think Sams may make sense

95% of the time I use a credit card to pay any extra. One time the cashier insisted on cash.
(said plastic is only for members)

Gift cards work at gas pump but you can't go over.

And you can't buy costco gift cards without being a member. And I don't think they have them for as little as $10.
You can buy most things online for a 5% surcharge. But, store prices are usually a little cheaper. And there are a small number of items that are members only online. including Costco gift cards. You can buy 3rd party gift cards instore or online for a 5% surcharge.

On rare occasions the cashier does not ask for the empty gift card back so I keep it. That will get you in another time despite 0 value.

The food court kiosk insists on using your gift card even though I thought you did not have to be a member to use them.
At Sams you can buy from the food court without being a member. And pharmacies and alcohol are open to all at both. You just can't buy anything else without being a member at Sams.

That's interesting. My Sam's Club literally never has a line. It's why I've come to prefer it over Costco, which is a madhouse everyday.

It must differ greatly in your area. Here in California, there are extremely short lines at Sam's compared to Costco. You can actually find parking at Sam's. None at Costco. You can walk aisles at Sam's without everyone speeding and bumping into you. Absolutely no comparison in those areas. Prices and choices is where Sam's falls short, but the price differences are usually very small. But sometimes it's worth it to me to pay a couple of dollars more and avoid all the extreme crowds at Costco.

lower membership fee but charge more on stuff?
The fee's gone up, too. Sort of. It was $45 last year, but mine renewed at $50 but I got a $5 credit for my next purchase.

One Walmart in a nearby town is always cheaper than all of the others--$2.26 a gallon this weekend, sometimes less, but always less than everywhere else.
The other Walmarts and Sam's Club were $3.59. I don't know why, maybe it's a neighborhood thing or where Walmart sends their extra milk, but it's always the case.
