I bought both the Denon 760 the Onkyo 6050 from Costco and the Onkyo is so much better in several ways. The Onkyo sounds better with more punch at lower volumes. The Atmos sounds much better on the Onkyo and what I was most impressed with on the Onkyo is the simulated surround coming from stereo signals, it somehow knows to keep the voices coming from the front and center speaker and other sounds coming from the back and ceiling speakers and makes old TV shows sound like they are in surround. It is the same with music on YouTube where the band is coming from the front and center speakers and the sub but there is just enough coming from the rear and ceiling speakers that it just fills the listing area perfectly. I am super happy with the Onkyo 6050 and for the $350 price range, I do not think it can be beat.

Hmm, trying to decide between this and the S940H that Adorama always has on sale.

If you mean the S960, it only has 1 HDMI 2.1 input. It has autosurround mode while the NR6050 does not. Honestly, I'd say get a refurb S760 from Denon [denon.com].

Generally, I've noted that Denon is quite a bit pricier than Onkyo. Any particular reasons?

The short answer is Denon is considered more a premium brand.

Didn't help, as people often have pointed out.
Onkyo in the recent past, had major reliability/QC issues, filed for bankruptcy, on the verge of death, and then bought out!
They are using Dirac to get people to gamble on them again, seems to be working for them so far.

I guess everybody has a different experience. I bought a Denon and I didn't like how user-friendly it was and all of the HDMI inputs started failing one by one until I had one left and I had to part ways with it. I chose to try a Onkyo and I liked it much better and have never had a problem.

I just got the 970H and I like it a lot. I doubt you could go wrong with either though.

Yes I agree, just look at how often people point to how a receiver "measures" or some "bench test" as a barometer on better or not!

Preference plays a significant role on a persons choice also!

Not to mention every brand has a failure rate, none are exempt from that.

Strongly recommend AGAINST this model. I got two from Costco (at this price), both would randomly resync the HDMI resulting in a (flash of) blank screen and sound cut off despite changing cables, source devices/inputs, and even monitors (It even did it a couple times when I was not outputting video and just listening to music.) I'm sure not everyone will have the same experience with this device, but it was so annoying because it was truly random. Some days it would do it five times in an hour. Other times it wouldn't do it for multiple days. I replaced this with the Denon x2800 from the recent deal and haven't had a single problem (that deal page also has another user, jimschoice , who did the same thing for the same reason.)

I have had serious issues with Onkyo in the past. I tried two over the past 10yrs or so and both had problems which required servicing. I won't buy one again. I recommend Yamaha.

I've had similar issues.

Additionally, no idea how this vendor is an authorized seller, as the 6050 is a Costco exclusive model

I have had this model from Costco and the previous model (non 8k model) also from costco. Both have worked flawlessly, I only upgrade because of Costco return policy and they dropped the price to the same as what I paid for the previous model. Pretty much all brands have handshaking issue with certain devices, cables, setup, etc. Sorry this happened to you and another user but it doesn't mean it will happen to everyone. I actually use very old cables not even technically rated for 4k but works at 4k just fine for my 4k projector (too hard to replace the in wall cables since this is a first floor home theater).

As others have said, I prefer the sound of the Onkyo when i switched from Denon to onkyo (and the Denon model was a much more expensive model with higher wattage, albeit older).

Also, one thing not mentioned is that this will do dual zone HDMI out which no other model in this price range will.

Too bad Costco doesn't carry this anymore, i would recommend getting this at Costco. I got it there at the same price as this which is a fantastic price.

So would y'all recommend the Onkyo TX-NR6050 or the AVR-S760H - Refurbished for 5 speakers and a TV for the outside porch?

I think this is a beautiful deal for a low cost zone 2 video receiver. Looking for an option to have my game consoles to my son's room so I can play another or watch tv
