Only in America does an agency (TSA) that is literally worthless (and shouldn't exist) get green-lit because "Patriotism", and then they turn around and charge you for things that used to be standard at an airport. USA! USA! USA!

I'm sure USA will keep on USA'ing and there will be a more premium $500 tier security clearance that comes out which will allow us to cut in front of precheck and clear

I just couldn't imagine standing in line looking at the people in the clear line and saying to myself did this person sign up for free with the Walmart Plus app or did they pay $200 a year for this service.. Being super judgmental

You are way overestimating how many Walmart + members are going to bother signing up for this, I think. I fly a decent amount and have precheck but the lines aren't too bad at Precheck at my airport so I don't care about CLEAR, even for free for a few months.

Interestingly, CLEAR is not through the government or TSA, it's private. A few airlines have a stake in the parent company.

Clear is a pretty disappointing service once you learn how it incentivizes airports not to improve their standard lines since they get commission on Clear users.
Wonder if Walmart is gonna give out the 50% off Walmart+ deal this year or if they will forgo it because they now have the Assist program and what not..
I haven't heard anything about a 50% off special coming up. I did receive an email back in September saying I would get a $50 gift card for renewing my membership for another year. I thought it was odd to get it so early though, since my membership doesn't renew until November.

Clear is practically useless if you have precheck, as lines are universally shorter (e.g: in most cases, less than 3 minutes). However, if you are ineligible for precheck, it may make sense. Basically it puts you into a seperate line for the TSA counter, where you usually come up first. In the past, TSA previously would sometimes mingle CLEAR users into the precheck screening lane (metal detector only, no seperating laptops and small liquids, shoes on), but since there was a security incident it probably isn't happening anymore
