Got this in natural for the same price a couple weeks ago. Probably one of the best very low budget guitars. Comes with a nice gig bag and a cheap cable. Get this and the BONES blackstar fly mini amp on sale and you have a nice learners setup.

Is this different/better than the Indio Strat copy that sells for like $60 when it's on sale? I have that one and it's a totally solid beginner's electric for a lot cheaper, when it's on sale of course.

It's considered better - though depends on what you're looking for, of course.

Monoprice states that it's had a setup completed, so "should" be less adjustment needed compared to the Cali.

It's significantly heavier, due to the type of wood in the body. For some, this is a non-desirable factor.

Generally very complimentary reviews, for this type of guitar.

I think hardware is said to be higher quality than the other "Cali" Strat types (MP has added a HSS pickup version.

Looks beautiful. Tremendous value for what it is.

The gig bag is easily worth $20 itself.

Pretty easy return process, if not satisfied with it.

At this price, you can enjoy it but not "worry" about it.

If I didn't already have one - I'd jump on it. The OS20/30/40 - are also crazy deals, for what they are!

For a beginner, get one of these Indio or a used Squier?

One of these will definitely suit you well. I've been playing for 30+ years, have multiple American Deluxe Strats, Teles, Jazzmasters... and these Indigos are really well made. I have bought 3 of the Teles and each has been AWESOME.

It comes down to personal preference. I'd prefer Squier to Monoprice but there are those among us on this site, who are conspicuously absent from this thread so far, who would have you believe that $60 Monoprice guitars are all anyone should ever consider.

When you can get a genuine Fender Squier Strat with the correct headstock, a full warranty that is effective at any Fender dealer, and with the ability to easily swap parts with other real Strats, it makes no sense to buy this piece of firewood from Monoprice for just a little bit less than what the former costs on sale at GuitarCenter/MF. Please think before buying these bad copies.
It makes no sense why you wouldn't be able to swap parts on this guitar. Plenty of people have used cheapo strats as a platform for a partscaster with great results. Also who cares about the "correct headstock". Do you think a PRS Silver Sky sucks because it doesn't have the "correct headstock"? Try to come up with legitimate arguments next time.

Squier tuners aren't compatible with fenders lol

I bought the blonde Tele copy recently and was pleasantly surprised with the quality. Considering one of these also, thanks OP.

If you're just starting out, it doesn't matter.

There are now a lot of price points in the Squier lineup. I'd consider these Indios about on par with the Squier "Affinity" series. They are a bit better than the Bullet or Sonic, but not as nice as the Squier 40th Anniversary, Classic Vibe, or Contemporary Special models.

But at the end of the day, what matters is how much you practice — so if a certain color/brand/headstock etc will call your name louder from the guitar stand every day… Well then, that's the best option!

Depends on the squier. I be the $60 and bullet are the same. I would see the$120 as the affinity or better with the setup.

Cheap squires are cheap and do not hold value. These mini price guitars could easily sell for what you paid. Great for project guitars

I'd get a squire.. for beginners, it's not super important to get an expensive guitar but you want a quality instrument. Nothing makes a beginner quit quicker than a guitar that's hard to play

Pickguard compatibility is a huge factor in ease of modding.
