I don't know that this is a practical way of thinking about things...this is an amazing value enduro bike, and almost by definition a enduro bike is "race worthy", and by definition anything "race" is not beginner.
People in all sports "over-do-it"...and undoubtfully the vast majority of long travel MTB buyers buy "too much bike"...I highly doubt that the vast majority even of seasoned riders will see meaninful performance benefits over this, by going to a Yeti SB160 or Nukeproof Mega or Ibis HD6 or w/e one might think is the "one", at 2 or even 4x the cost.
That doesn't mean there aren't any performance benefits, it is just that after one point it doesn't matter: look, my Ferrari beats your Lamborghini at 10.5/10 driving pace when driven by the race driver I'm not kinda of a thing.
If you are not joining Rampage for 2024, probably you will be as good as it gets for $2800 on this...which is what your buddy's Yeti will depreciate after 6mo or so...unless you want to impress someone thru brand recognition - or fullfilling some daydream, consider this seriously.
(I daydream of a RM Altitude, to match my RM Element, but I'd take this as a gift, thank you very much).
oh, and good news, discounts on cycling gear are back! Took 3 years, but I hope discounts for the end of season bikes will restart, so even if you insist on more boutique brands, you can score 25-40% discounts 😀

When do you think we'll see the biggest discounts, sir? I'm in the market for a highish end mountain bike but I can wait if the deals get better. I'm looking to be able to climb very steep terrain as easily as possible. Thank you
Discounts have been here and there through mid summer if you pay attention.
Through covid + its wake, there were virtually no discounts.
If you look through online retailers & local bike shops alike, 2023 models are already discounted 25% or more for the higher end bikes to make room for the 2024 collection.
If you expect even deeper discounts, I'd say you won't find them on higher end models, at least not reliably. Many "insiders" predicted doomsday and although they might be right for small brick & mortar stores that might indeed go out of business and fire-sale bikes in stock, these will be "unicorn" cases.
Now, on easy climbing bikes...I think the best bang are with the latest batch of short travel trail bikes: Yeti SB120, Pivot Trail 429 for the more high-end ones, Ibis Ripley, Rocky Mountain Element, Santa Cruz Tallboy are mid-range "staples" (by comparison). now... whether you can make it up steep climbs, it is more on your engine than these bikes 😉
