don't listen to bootlickers telling you games don't need more than 12gb of RAM.... for upcoming years VRAM requirements skyrocketed because of high quality texture packs and even much worse with RAY TRACING
once upon a time 4gb was enough and that time is long gone... same will happen to 12gb, especially on $900 GPUs
Important thing is this and the $1200 deal both have good CPU/GPU balance. I just hate that it only comes with 16gb of slow ram.

We're currently in a bubble where consoles with fixed memory are driving many of the development decisions games undergo and developers are simply setting render performance targets to match.
Translate that to a computer, where pipelines and expectations (not to mention, an entire operating system with ever-growing requirements and an overzealously nannying kernel running in the background) set entirely different render performance targets and of course the computer will need more resources.
But this is increasingly just a mask for the fact that, despite being more performant per dollar due to being tailor made for one purpose, consoles have been getting away with things PCs can't for several generations now.
Look back just two generations where physical media dominated on console sales and recall that one trick discs had to employ to keep up with hard drive performance was to place duplicate content at various points on the disc. That's now becoming less and less common because of solid state drives.
The same will eventually be said for these crazy texture resolutions and baked shadows that eat up the vram requirements your so-called "bootlickers" are questioning.
For one, very few games have started to fully utilize Nanite, Lumen, and many of the other procedural rendering technologies that came out in Unreal 5.2. Nanite alone has the potential to reduce the number of prepackaged, non-scalable high resolution textures that get baked into games.
Secondly, Direct Storage coupled with Gen 5 drives is starting to make the overhead cost of streaming textures far more negligible overall. With the potential scalability of bandwidth, it's not hard to see that it could eventually act as an expansion for vram rather than just a supplemental cache.
Finally, I believe that when you refer to "bootlickers", you're actually just talking about Nvidia customers. But what you fail to grasp is that as much as it looks like heel-dragging on their part, these specs aren't just random guesstimates about what they think a flagship game "could" need. Again, developers set the render performance targets. And despite working on development boxes that sometimes house professional cards with vram you won't see on a consumer card for at least the next three years, very few developers are dumb enough to release a game that specifically targets a card you can't buy yet.
Moreover, AMD is going down a slippery slope by trying to normalize consumer cards with more vram than most systems have for RAM these days. Unlike Nvidia, who are actually addressing some of these memory concerns with new software technologies, AMD is simply throwing more hardware at the problem. One might wonder if they're just trying to force the next iteration of consoles to happen sooner.
