It's due to the filter, not the actual vacuum itself. Your best bet is a shop vac, with proper filter, for grill ash.

when you click on the url it takes you to an amazon page that shows 2 models I own the larger dewalt vacuum and it can blow when you reverse the inlets I do not however own the smaller vacuum so I cannot say about that one. The larger one however is an excellent portable vacuum

Anyone know if it can blow air as well?

Edit: I see one review stating it can not. I would have liked to be able to use it in my office for both vacuuming and dusting.
no, i don't think it can.

Didn't know this existed. Reviews look very good, washable filter, various attachments (including a floor attachment). Bonus, it looks like a futuristic weapon.
Sold, in for 1.
stock filter says not washable, I believe. But there are after market filters which are washable, also foam sleeves to help reduce filter clogging

I just returned POS Dyson v16 paid almost $600 after tax. I needed it mostly for my car but would use indoors too. It doesn't come with a flex hose and is awkward to use. Battery lasts 7 minutes on good strong suction level. Absolutely hated it. Shape, size, deceptive marketing, useless attachments, no trigger lock. I'd try this dewalt but i'm on ridgid and can't have more charges and batteries for different brands. Ridgid vacs seem like crap.

I got this to clean my grill out, but it instantly clogs for that purpose .. so just a heads for anyone planing to clean a lot of dust/ash

It's probably great otherwise
You need a Bad Ash type vacuum. I use one to clean out my wood stove all the time. Regular vacuum cleaners aren't built to handle the fine ash /dust as you've discovered.

Sweet Deal! In for 2 more, one for me one for someone else. Note: do not use to vacuum bees off your deck, works great, but it gets funky inside...

Well that and fire danger. I use and actual ash vac for our pellet stove. Made to not burn up.

I've got a 15-year old weak dust buster that I've already replaced the battery pack on once, and I'm annoyed by its lack of power every time I use it. And I have other Dewalt cordless tools, so plenty of batteries and chargers lying around. Seems like a no-brainer. In for one.

I own one and really like it. Only downside is that it's kinda loud.

There are also people who have added a makita cyclone separator that will make this thing incredible.

Too bad it is not brushless, but for the price seems decent. Not sure I need it since I already have a Dyson V8. Would be useful to keep in garage though.

This vac looks promising but I'm already in the Milwaukee / Ego battery platforms.
Was thinking about getting into the Ryobi system because they have more stuff that's way cheaper then Milwaukee/Ego.
And now Dewalt has this!
Decisions, decisions......
As much as I love ryobi. Im going towards dewalt. I had a drill, 18 inch fan, corner sander, regular square sander and That power scrubber stick one Already go out with very minimal use. The corner sander lasted about a month. And the scrubber lasted all 30 mins. Got it replaced and that one lasted 2 days. I still use ryobi but when I see a deal on dewalt I bite. Replacing little by little and my dad gets the handme downs. He doesn't complain cuz its free.

Yes it is more expensive but if I had to buy 2 drills already then its basically the same price.

Anybody use this for cleaning inside cars?
I've owned for a year. It's nice for a light cleaning, just have reasonable expectations knowing this isn't a shop vac. For example, sometimes it takes a few attempts to pick up pebbles. The portability is nice.

Who would use a vacuum to clean a grill filled with Ash? Of course it's going to clog.

Grabbed one last time it went on sale. I use this way more than my Dyson handheld. So much easier to swap batteries than to plug the Dyson in.
