Not necessarily - a lot of the complaints seem to be that they really have nothing to do with Sundaras and have a different sound. There's also the general caution around Hifiman QC. I don't think many people have actually heard them first hand.

But I think these are fantastic for the price. They have a good baseline sound without any huge flaws you normally find in closed-backs. They don't require equalization but some simple EQ makes them even better and they are not hard to drive. They're comfortable enough. They isolate a little less than expected. I'm not a fan of the look but it's definitely nice for the price segment. I don't like the cable but its not the worst.

it's a NO. the hd6xx is just superior for this price range. the sundara open back is better than the hd6xx imo, but the closed back version just isn't the sundara

These are planar magnetic. Not really fair to compare against other dynamic models. These will require a good headphone amp in order to really come alive.

Theres a reason why they are on sale. Hifiman has never made a good closed back headphone~ All their open backs are nearly 100% hitrate, but they also have a 100% hitrate for bad closed backs. Id pass on it. Stick to the regular Sundara not the Sundara Closed.
