it's also nowhere near being the cheapest z790 board that asus sells: https://www.asus.com/us/motherboa...l&S
the ram in this deal for instance is the same thing that they've been bundling for months now, they must have bought a lot of it... if there is a complaint about cheap junk it's with that ram, i've already had a stick die on me.

sometimes these microcenter deals look like a bunch of cheap parts, but it's generally because the parts are older and/or m.c. got a deal by purchasing bulk quantities.

Also the board is under standard size and missing the right side mounting holes. ASUS gives dimensions of 12 inch x 9.2 inch

looking at the layout versus, say, that msi board mentioned earlier: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/P...=1&slide=1
i think that i'd rather have the shorter 9.2" height because the connectors along that bottom edge are easier to access in a tight case, and the board is more rigid there because the connectors are closer to the screw holes.
calling 9.2" height "cheaper" when it's potentially stronger doesn't make sense to me, but this is s.d. :-0 and perhaps there is an argument that the lower connector row would be harder to access if there is a card in the bottom slot.
i like my 5900x for gaming and cool temps, but amd and nvidia both dropped the ball by failing to support h.265 4:2:2 decoding on the editing timeline, it's a huge fail.
i think that the i9-12900k has the same intel quicksync integrated gpu that's in the intel 13th/14th-gen cpu's, so there is little to be gained by paying extra $$$ for an i9-14900k, for example:
"Interestingly, Intel's performance advantage in Premiere Pro is actually almost completely independent of the 14th Gen launch. Between the new processors and the previous 13th Gen processors, we only saw a few percent difference. With BIOS and driver updates in the future, things may change, but as things stand today, we could have published a revisited article for "Intel Core 13th Gen vs AMD Ryzen 7000" and it would be almost identical to this post. So, while it is good for Intel to maintain their lead in this type of workflow, the 14th Gen processors are largely a launch that Premiere Pro users can completely ignore."

i9-12900k is the sweet spot right now, if you can keep the pig cool.

7950x3d is a better performer, but at about 4x the price.

If that doesn't bother you, it's fine. But I would go with a quality z690 board vs. a budget z790 board that's missing all the z790 specific features.
