This year I'm trying to build my first PC is this good? Only thing I know is they said to get a modular psu. I have a 300w I got years ago but I'm guessing it's not good enough for modern gaming

Not PCIE 5.0 or ATX3.0 compliant, but if you need it for an older build (before Nvidia 3000 series r older\PCIE 4.0, this would be great.

The only modern game I'm planning to play is Starfield and probably at 1080p so a 2 series Nvidia? 2080?

Yeah. Is he saying it wont work at all or it just won't look as "clean"?

That would work or the 3070 has been selling around $280 for a good one. If you're going to build a budget system like one of the 12700K combos and a 3070 you really don't need anything more than a 750 w power supply and 650 would probably get it done

They are backwards compatible, butthe power supply is still not compliant and does not include the proper cables for GPU power. Did you not go search what compliant means? Go look at the power supply that replaced this one or any ATX 3.0 PCIE5 compliant Power supply made after 2022. Who is buying a PCIE 5 SSD to run it at 4.0 speeds, likely only people with a PS5 ol. Why gimp him with buying an old system only to hit a wall when he\she does go out and buy a PCIE5 SSD. Its all on the money he\she wants to spend now, if you want to future proof your pc, then go with a deal on a current gen motherboard\cpu if its within his\her budget. Component compatibility: Before upgrading, ensure that your motherboard, CPU, and other components support PCIe 5.0. Not all existing hardware is compatible with the newer standard. If you have PCIe 4.0 components (such as graphics cards and NVMe SSDs) that you don't plan to replace, you might not fully benefit from PCIe 5.0's increased speed. https://www.howtogeek.com/854680/...%20ratings.
Even for the handful of GPUs out there that feature PCIe 5 plugs, most (all?) don't have power excursions that would push them beyond the limits of PCIe 4. Even if they did, a 1000W PSU on most systems is going to have enough overhead to cover required power excursions. It's worth considering for future use for GPU sake, but at the rate things are going 1000W may not be enough in 3-5 years anyway regardless of ATX 3.0 compliance.

As for SSDs that's truly a non-issue as they require very little power to begin with and pretty much any PSU is going to be able to cover even, for example, a 200% power excursion. NVMe drives peak around 10W. You're not going to lose any performance running a PCIe 5 SSD on non-ATX 3.0 PSU.

4070Ti and above has 600W 12+4 PIN (12VHPWR) connector. If don't have PSU with that connector you have to use 2-4 8 PIN PCIe cables they rated at 150W each into adapter cable they include with the GPUs now.

Depends on your PSU, I have a super flower se 1200, It didn't come with a PCIe 5 cable because it's an older PSU but it's 100% compliant and they actually sell the PCIe 5 cable separately.
