I was trying to decide between the same two as you, but ultimately ended up going with the V15 Detect Total from Costco (for $559.99) a week ago. Now I'll have to try and get them to match, or just return/rebuy for the $499.99.

My thoughts...the V12 Detect is mostly just a slightly lighter and less powerful version of the V15 Detect. The battery life is actual near identical, however the V12 (for some reason?) does fully recharge about 100min quicker than the V15 (from testing I saw online), but both last anywhere from ~8 minutes on a full charge, up to ~75 minutes, depends what power setting you use.

The biggest differences from my researching is that the V15 Detect Total has 3x as much canister storage before you need to empty, has better airflow and suction, is quieter during operation, and comes with more accessories/tools

On the flip side, the V12 Detect is about 20% lighter, more maneuverable, and has a switchable power button (instead of needing to constantly hold on the V15). It also comes in, in your case, over 35% cheaper. ($500 vs $315).

I'd say test out your V12 for a while, see how you like the suction on it and how often you are emptying the canister. If you find the suction to be fine, and the canister emptying to be a non-issue, then I'm not sure there's a reason for you to upgrade to the V15, unless there are a few accessories included that you feel you MUST have, or you just want the peace of mind of the Costco return policy.

I personally decided that I wanted to best suction possible and a larger canister, especially because I have three dogs that constantly shed year round. That, and the Costco warranty are what pushed me to go with the V15.

I contacted Costco live chat to ask about the $50 off $500 for this item on 11/23. They told me the Dyson V15 is not an eligible item, and only items with the label "NOV 23 ONLY" are eligible for $50 off $500.

Keep in mind, this V15 is not a refurb, so will be brand new, it comes from Costco, so it can be returned at any point if it breaks or stops working, and this is the Total Clean Extra version, so it comes with 10 attachments, including the Fluffy Optic head for hard floors.

Hey all got the V15 at Costco and I just used the small motor head today on stairs and the felt pad is already peeling off. WTF!!!! Should I return the whole thing back to Costco for refund/exchange or contact Dyson? Kind of a pain to pack the whole thing back in the box.
Same thing happened to mine. I just used some super glue to attach it again. It's been fine since, but you can always return to Costco later on.

I may be wrong, but I believe the absolute on Dyson.com is an upgrade over this one. And that extra 20% is great, just ask yourself is it worth it over Costco warranty

Dyson.com price shows $550 with fewer accessories. Also, where is the 20% CB showing? Unable to find it. How is that a better deal than the one via Costco?

Brought mine home yesterday, this is after an Roborock ran a couple days prior that has been on a weekly schedule.

I ran this in the bedroom (~250-300 rough guesstimate) after fully charging. It filled up the canister! This things suction power is no joke. I emptied the canister, went BACK over the same area and it filled it up about half way.

I compared it to our Dyson V8 stick vacuum and its over double the suction power! Ever since using this I feel like we've been living in filth. I'm vacuuming once a day until this canister comes out clean....

This is a GREAT vacuum!

This one comes with several additional attachments. It doesn't say HEPA filter but I bet they're the same, it's all marketing strategy. This one also doesn't have the built-in crevice tool like the exclusive Dyson version but I heard that makes it more prone to clogging. And the color on this one is much nicer than gold IMO. But 20% cash back on a $550 item is quite a bit and maybe would make me consider the Dyson version but now I already have the Costco version here and it looks great, I'm keeping it. It's charging as I type this (and there's no buzzing from the charger BTW). I hope to not need to return it, I bet there's no way to pack it all up again as that thing is like a puzzle because of so many attachments.

That one is 50% more money when on sale but I don't think it's 50% better. I chose the V15.
Even with 20% cb?

That cashback really makes things more desirable directly from Dyson.

We currently have a v6 and I had talked myself out of another Dyson as I HATE emptying that thing. ITS SO MESSY!

I was going to go for the Samsung Bespoke that emptied into a bag. But I was disappointed to see how Samsung had stripped most of the attachments. Then the Costco deal ended as well.

Now I've talked myself into the v15 assuming the canister is less messy to empty.

Can anyone that's owned the previous style vs the newer confirm if this is true? How is emptying the canister on the newer versions?

20% cash back with buying directly from dyson or buying from costco? Can't decide, which seems to better deal in your opinion? TIA 🙏🏻
