Have both. The XM5 has better noise cancellation on planes. Considerable difference IMO. Bose are more comfortable and have better clarity. XM5 has better bass.

I bought them for $200 Black Friday 2022. I'd recommend them.
They sound great, the noise cancelling is very good, but not quite as good as my Sony XM4's. If you're putting away silverware or clank a glass, the Bose attempts to compensate and winds up sending a loud counter clank.
However, I cannot recommend any Sony's. The XM4 earbuds had the dead battery issue and my XM4 headphones have the random ear piercing squeal with ANC. Their quality control and reliability are not worth the risk.

I think I paid 200 for these at Costco last year? I'm no audiophile, but they're easily the best pair of headphones I have. Super recommend.

I want to get a headphone that I can use on long flights, so looking for something very comfortable and is truly noise cancelling. Would this headphone qualify on those parameters?

Yea. If you order online there is price adjustment form you need to submit. That's it.
This only applies to items on sale online. So its confirmed that this price is online price?

Bose via their eBay store is selling refurbished QC45 for $159. There is an eBay coupon 'SCOREMORE' for extra 15% off. Just scored a pair for $135 before tax. These are refurbished by Bose which is the best you can ask for, 2 year warranty included

I have both. For me these are 10x better
1. I have tinnitus, my hears hiss 24/7 and the noise canceling makes it stop. So I LITERALLY wear them 18hrs a day. The all day comfort isn't even comparable. 45 are better
2. 45 have physical buttons which are a must for me. I won't even upgrade to the new bose because I like physical buttons.
3. Because of tinnitus I fall asleep with them on. The xm5 always activate on touch, the volume changes and stuff

MOST IMPORTANT the Bose you can change source from the headphones which is soooo important for me. Say I'm watching my Apple TV and someone calls on the phone, with the xm-5 you can't pick the phone. U gotta hope to get to the remote in time then mute it then hope it automatically switches. With the Bose, I literally have 8 devices set up and I can switch from the headphones.

The ONLY time I'd reccomend the xm-5 is for short 1hr MUSIC session. Like if someone said "listen to x new album" I'd probably pick up the xm-5
Tinnitus is sound perceived within the brain due to nerve damage. How can your headphones detect and cancel out perceived sound that has no actual sound waves?

I plan to wear mine at night, also, but to eliminate environmental noise that might disturb me. I am a very light sleeper.

I have both, too, and you're dead on here. I also have the Bose QCII earphones which are better in terms of noise cancelling than the XM5. It's scary how quiet the world becomes with those in my ears. Better than anything else I've ever tested.

Special edition and it comes with a soft case instead of a hard case.

I saw $180 clearance price at the local Walmart store, and was wondering if I should buy.

Does this have a setting where you can just have the noise cancellation on without listening to any music?
Yes and it is heavenly

Though the costco return policy is hard to turn down, hoping amazon or BB will also drop the price as I would like the hard case since this is for the kids.
