I think you misread the title. This is CHARGER only NOT jump-start power bank. These are used when car wasn't driven for few weeks or more or someone else forgot lights on overnight to slowly charge batteries back to full capacity. If battery is completely depleted you can still start the car with jimper cables (not advisable by manufacturers for newer cars which have tons of "brains" which can be destroyed either by mishandling of mentioned cables or if car that has dead battery has a short of some sort which can cause the car providing the jump power get messed up by that) BUT in order to charge the battery back completely you might have to drive a decent distance/time, this charger allows to do it at home with access to 120V outlet.
It's bit overkill for maintaining battery charge since those are usually around 1-2AMP bit it can be used as such as well.
These chargers do NOT have internal battery.
You'd have to park your car in your garage or driveway.. get an extension cord, plug your car charger and hook it up to the car battery to charge. The cars alternator will be charging your battery while you drive to keep it topped off. But if you don't drive much or do a lot of short trips, then charging your car battery would be a really good idea.

Are people using this in enclosed area like garage? Just wonder about safety of using it inside enclosed area.

Or do people keep the garage door open when using this kind of battery tender but that may not be safe in some area or during winter may not be ideal to keep the car/battery from freezing ....
This is perfect for keeping a large modern SUV topped off in the winter for 4 months etc during subzero weather, in an enclosed garage.

The battery will not "freeze and swell" unless the charge goes below 12 volts. At 12.5v i think the battery water freezing temp is -70f. However a dead battery will freeze over in the upper 20's. Ant chemistry scary.

Thanks OP, just picked one up.

to address the prior post above, this is not a "jump starter" with an internal battery to charge.
Drop them off at a Costco tire shop

Thanks for the heads up on this. I just finished winterizing my boat and I needed a good trickle charger for the battery. Schumaker is a good quality brand so for under $35 you cant go wrong with this one.

Went and picked it up. Got home and realized they gave me the red model with no wifi.

After looking at the box I got, it says model SP1298. If you type that in on autozone's website it pulls up the one with wifi this SD post is about: SC1599.

Edit: This is the one they gave me: https://www.amazon.com/Schumacher...J6875?th=1

But put SP1298 into autozone's website and see what happens.

Just bought one and tried out charging my 12V battery in the car. For anyone curious, I measured that the "idle" power consumption (i.e., battery is fully charged and charger is in maintenance mode) is around 1.5 - 1.6 watts.

What I read is not about "freeze and swell" but more about when a battery is charging, gases will start to build up around the battery. I read that on one side of the battery, you have oxygen being produced and on the other side of the battery, you have hydrogen being produced. In a normal situation, the production of these gases won't be that much of an issue. When your car is running, they will be whisked away pretty quickly.

However, in an enclosed space, all of those gases are building up in an enclosed location and they aren't going anywhere. Wonder if anyone worry about that kind of issue.

People have been storing cars in garages with tenders on them for 30 years without issue. Plus most modern batteries are sealed. But what you are talking about, happens at a very very low rate. Yes what you say is happening (its why you need to add distilled water to non sealed batteries every so often). But its at an extremely low rate. You are not talkin a hydrogen fuel cell. You are talking an ounce of water per year on the very high side of an abused over charged battery.

Can anyone comment on the app? Several reviews say it's not real time or it doesn't connect to the app.

I use the app a lot. It's not real time (expect some 3-10min delay as shown in the app), and it doesn't tell you when the device disconnects (but you can see the delay getting significantly larger), but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the app. It's informative (shows current and voltage over time) and this level of delay is tolerable to me. Also my device has never disconnected by itself.

I assume you measured the voltage directly?

I can't find a user manual for this model anywhere online. The SC1599 is curiously absent from the Schumacher website. And documentation for similar models provide absolutely no data on the charging profiles for either SLA or LiFePO4.

Is it really asking too much to see what the charging voltage is for a f'ing CHARGER product???
I checked the voltage while it was charging up until it said full charged. The leads was saying 13.5v and it didn't go higher than that. My lifepo4 battery needs around 14v to fully charge but this charger can't go higher and since I can't change profile manually it won't fully charge my battery

I'm not familiar with this brand, not sure how reliable they are. For battery maintainer, I would only use an established brand. I use the battery tender. This things can cause fire so don't cheap out. My battery tender came very handy during COVID stay home. I still have my old metal Sears Craftsman 6/12 volt battery charger from the 80s works like a charm. Used it last week. That with a good batter digital tester is all you really need. You can test If the battery is still good before you charge it.
Hang on to the old ones. Last new Schumacher I bought didn't have proper voltage regulation and fried my battery. They gave me a free replacement and that one performed the same way while I monitored it. The old Schumacher chargers were good.
