I'm not sure if I'm an outlier, but I've been consistently getting ~48 hours from the AW8 I ordered a few weeks ago. For me, the Ultra was just way too big, and with this deal, it's impossible to justify the Ultra at 3 times the price.

Thanks. I never had to use any of the feature before so not really sure if it would effect me.

You're missing the point. I will need to carry my phone around, and I can do everything on my phone already, so I don't need a watch that has short battery life, which is another device that needs charging daily. If I want a watch, I require long battery life, and you know what, I do wear a watch that has at least 2 weeks of battery life, which way more practical for my usage.

Is it bad to ask for more battery life from Apple when there are watches with way longer battery life out there?

maybe I am missing a point but for me this is an add on for comfort. I work in the lab environment that it is not possible to pull out phone from the pocket so this helps me getting to know who is trying to reach me and then I can make a call to let it go or remove my gloves and answer the call. And then of course some fitness based sensors which helps me identify how my progress have been like heart rate etc. So we have different needs.
