I have both for a few years. The cheaper one is enough for you if you just want to inflate car and bike tires. You will have to hold the trigger button for it to run.

For the $35 one (dual functions), it does more than the cheaper one. You can program the desired psi and the inflator will stop once reached. No need to hold the on trigger. In addition, it can be used to inflate (or deflate) air mattress/ floating devices at a fast rate. It bumps up more volume of air thus faster rate.

I have this new digital one and the PSI is off by 1.5 to 2 so I just add a couple PSI when I use it.

My favorite tool... Works as it should, quicker and easier than my large bulky air compressor. I have one available for the road trips with a spare 2mah battery. Great deal at $25

Should I return the batteries without the receipt? Wouldn't they ask for both to be returned?

Seems like it's YMMV at stores.
I've never had an issue with it multiple times in multiple stores and have even returned right at pickup right as they hand me my items.
As long as they are different line items (like this) you can return separate. Some managers seem to push back, but you can always just say ok and go to a different HD if that's the case.

Also an option to set the unwanted item to be picked up at a different store, but I've found that more a hassle than just returning as I pickup (or even up to 90 days later).

What's the difference between this one and the $35 high power inflator? Would be using this for car and bike tires.

100% recommend this. Used it for kids footballs, bikes, and my car. You need to be engaged while it inflates but it is quick(unless you are doing it at freezing temp). I got it from Direct tools for ~$14, a while ago but got bunch of other stuff too.

I've the older version of this with the analog dial gauge. It's horribly inaccurate. Is the digital one any better? If so I might consider upgrading.

I have bought several of these over the years (analog and digital readout models) and they just don't last. For $25, lasting a couple of years is acceptable but I really wish these didn't self destruct so predictably.

The pricing of these are about as good as you can get these days. I got them before pandemic and they were roughly $20-$25 for the cheaper one and $35-$40 for the dual function one. If I remember correctly, I got the dual function one for about $35+tax so if you can get the hack working, it is great.

Both have been working well for quite a few years for occasional pumping airs. They are great as part of my Ryobi tools for shared batteries.

+1 on the more expensive one. the cheap one has small scale, and it is a guessing game on when the correct psi is reached, and even then, you have to have another gauge to set the pressure. with the more expensive one, like he^^ says, you set the psi, and when it reaches it, it shuts off. our last 3 cars had/have tpms, and whatever the more expensive one was set at, the exact same number appeared on the dash. so i never had to use a hand held gauge to set exact pressure. and, the numbers are much larger
