I've used something like that with an 18v cordless jigsaw, and it hits about a thousand times harder than the $30-$40 generic massagers on Amazon.
Yeah I know the chair is more expensive but you get so much more for it. Who is taking up a whole spare room for a bed that only does a little bit of compression and a lower back air bag lift?
Depends on how big or tall you are. I owned that first one, used it a couple of years, and then ran into a Costco demo on the Novo. It's literally about 20% roomier-feeling for taller folks. This stuff is all made in China but those Best Massage ones are made for smaller people. At least the one I had was..

I've owned a fairly cheap one from Costco, it was OK, but was recalled due to fire risk when charging or something...
Bought a cheaper (even cheaper than the Costco one) one from Meh. Got a replacement within the 90 day window. Honestly, it was probably worth the $30 we spent on it because I can lend it out to people without worrying about breaking it or missing it.
I also own an Ekrin B37S based on the MGF review of it. Had it since Jan 2021. Paid $7 less than what they're going for on Amazon now.

My wife uses it daily. I use it... as needed (so maybe once every week or two.)
To answer your question: the stall force (55lbs for the B37s) is absolutely the difference maker. I am literally inflicting pain on either myself or my wife LONG before I hit that stall point. That is not the case at all with any of the cheap ones. Plus, durability...
So yeah, $250ish is a LOT to spend on a massage gun, but for me (and for my cheapskate wife) we'd buy another one tomorrow if we had to (which would most likely require us to lose it because, in theory, it has a Lifetime warranty on it.)
But if money was tight, I'd probably consider something like an open-box Ekrin B37 for $115.
With that said, a Theragun certainly isn't a horrible choice. In fact, in one area where it definitely shines is the amplitude. My Ekrin "only" has an 8mm amplitude, whereas the Theragun Elite has a 16mm amplitude. *For us* this hasn't been a huge deal, but it does make a difference for sure.

I've used a corded Ryobi and cordless Ridgid jigsaw. The downsides are:
1. They are loud (as you said)
2. They are relatively heavy.
3. It's very easy to get to too much power.
Any of these may be deal breakers, but I'm a pretty big guy, and I don't like the feel of the cheapo guns. The higher end guns are clearly better.
I haven't done any real testing, but it hasn't felt like the adapter is close to breaking.
