Humidifier aficionado here: this is my current favorite. Having had Vornado and Dyson units, this does a great job of humidifying our bedroom, very easy to clean and has a relatively big water reservoir. Also, for me at least, it's silent and doesn't make dripping noises which all of the aforementioned do. Great price!

Typically the target is 50% for the overall level of humidity in your house. This ensures things like furniture, wood flooring, etc. remain stable and do not warp or cup. Most importantly bad things like mold don't grow above about 60% humidity. As it relates to personal health, winter time is typically the driest time of the year in many parts of the country and humidity below 50% can start to cause some individuals to experience dry nasal passages, coughing or even nose bleeds. Additionally, if you have an onset of bronchitus the additional humidity above 50% can help alleviate symptoms and create a productive cough to get phlegm out of the lungs. This is where either a room or whole house humidifier such as posted can help. All of the is very YMMV and if you are healthy and not having any issues you may not even need humidity. Hope this helps...

I just contacted LEVOIT and they stated that this model is the same, or comparable, to these two models:

And

does it have filters that need to be changed? if it has a sponge filter, does that withstand cleaning?

I get white mineral powder in the room when I use my current ultrasonic humidifier unless I use distilled water. Do you have to use distilled water in these or do they generate the white powdery chalk?

Going with the evaporative humidifier which is also $20 off at Costco. These other types all leave a residue or a wet spot under the humidifier when running all night.
The Vornado? Is that also in store?

How did you contact Levoit? Their number doesn't reach a person.

This one is similar to their other models. Love the efficiency, hate the cleaning and refill aspect. It's on the smaller side of a tank so if you leave it on 18 hours on the medium/high setting, expect to refill it every day. If you leave it on the low, then it'll last 36 hours.

There's a lot of nooks and crannies so it's impossible to fully clean very well. I suppose you can do a vinegar soak or attempt to throw it on the top rack of the dishwasher. Even then you can't scrub in the nooks and crannies of the base.

I ended up going back to my Ventra air purifier, but this unit was quiet and upped the humidity very quickly.

I'm still in search of "the one." One I got from Amazon is pretty decent but it doesn't have a timer shutoff. I don't need the thing to run all day and night.

Anyone has issues with cool/warm most units emitting a bunch of white particles everywhere? It caused my hvac filters to clog up pretty quickly. One year filters last like 1 month.
The ultrasonic ones like these will vaporize the minerals in the water, and that's bad to breathe.

The warm/cool moist units that have a pad or use a water heating coil breed mold. That might be what you saw. White mold grows with very little help.

Noob here.. I know I can look up on Google but I want to ask here lol.
What exactly is the benefit of running a humidifier?? I'm contemplating if I'd like to buy one for my bedroom
I use one for my acoustic guitar room. I live in Tucson, and go through a tank a day because the outside humidity is 5%.

I use RO water from my under-sink unit. No white powder. Cleaning is a bit in the "pain in the ass" category because of all the spots pink mold can grow. Once a week when the water fully runs out, I go over all the corners, nooks and crannies with an old toothbrush and then dry with a paper towel. I also have to put a dry towel where the aroma cartridge is because the A/C blows air towards the unit and then the water vapor is sensed by the sensor and causes the RH reading to go all over the place. I also bought an old school plastic lunch tray to put it on just in case it begins to leak as mentioned in some Amazon reviews. I have had it for a year and no leaks. Mine is running in my acoustic guitar room 24/7 because the humidity in Tucson, Arizona is about 5% everyday. I dump a tank a day in that room with this humidifier and it grows pink mold less frequently compared to other humifiiers I have tried.

Why would anyone get an ultrasonic if it outputs minerals and bacteria into the air

The white powder is from your hard water. Use distilled water.

After looking at the PDF of the manual, it does not look particularly easy to clean. Seems similar to a lot of other humidifiers: various channels and grooves that should be cleaned every few days, and the opening to the tank looks too small for most people to fit a hand through.
