For what it's worth, I have two Okuma rod/reel combos I troll for salmon with and have no problems. They make decent gear. For those unfamiliar with the brand.

Nice! Looks like shipping on tht Record Chaser rod is $16.49 (at least for me). Looks like it could possibly work as a solid crab snaring rod too...
yeah the shipping is quite a lot... tho I bought the record chaser for the same reason and 2 other rods, 1 ultralight for carp and 1 for spare + reel + line and the shipping was the same!

Which Okuma do people recommend for tossing Luckycraft? I am California coast, not needing to toss it out too far to grab perch, hali, striper. But wanting a light setup that is sensitive enough.

I have SST Trout rods that are absolutely excellent. I also have perhaps 10 Okuma reels that are high value per dollar.
Reviews are sometimes mixed on Okuma rods (and many others), but i believe it is almost always user error. No graphite rod likes to bend past 90 degrees, and the higher the modulus graphite, the more brittle it becomes.
I love Okuma, but I probably wouldn't be looking for a carbon blank fishing rod for catfish. The characteristics of fiberglass make it really good for throwing out bait and auto catching with circle hooks while also being more durable. I'd look for an S-glass pole or a hybrid like a Whisker Seeker.

Okuma SST 9-10' rods rated anywhere from 6-20lbs should do the trick for you
Would this work well as a surf fishing rod? Specs (10', heavy, 6oz lure) seem to be ok. I've always fished freshwater.
Sure. It would work. 10 foot is common for people throwing lures in the surf. I prefer 12' or even 15' for just throwing out bait and sitting it in a sand spike, but I've also successfully surf fished wading with a 7' medium "freshwater" rod too.
Also look at the Okuma Longitude.
