However when my cart instead had just two DualSense Charging Stations, the collective $59.98 counted as exceeding the $30 threshold, essentially turning the promo into a BOGO for my purchase.

The current white model has grown on me greatly - like Cordyceps. They haven't released a black edition, period, AFAIK. Doesn't seem like even the new model will address this, meaning the horror that is the current design will haunt us well after Halloween.
It's sad that the desire for any shiny object during peak COVID overwhelmed good taste. Sony won the war but at the cost of world-wide blight. They care not a whit, but their lousy aesthetics are the main reason why my Series X continues to enjoy the living room all to itself.
The only controllers without drift issues use Hall effect (magnetic) sensors.
