These are good to kill small flying insects such as fruit flies and small flies. These use blue LED and not UV lamp (which is expensive). The LED lasts 3-12 months and the replacement LEDs are sold for 3 for $18. For this to be successful in removing flies, place it near the fruits etc and make sure all other lights are off. If the blue light is the sole light bugs notice, this will be very successful. I have connected it to a WiFi plug and set a timer for this to turn ON at 11
PM every night and turn off the 6 AM.
Ineffective? This thing will definitely kill bugs, esp those attracted to UV light. None of these are particularly effective at killing mosquitoes as a target species. Otherwise expect some nice ZAPS!
The octenal mosquito attractant is negligible. You'll find a nice collection of dead bugs below the zapper. Mice, rats, possums, and raccoons will love the crispy insect snacks.
Bought this in 2006 for 30 bucks off amazon. Didn't use it much until this year with so many mosquitos in my back yard. Works great for most bugs. To those that say mosquitos aren't attracted to light, I would disagree. I have a Katchy which uses a light and a fan to keep them from flying back out, I bought last year to use inside. Catches 20-40 mosquitoes and other bugs --- every 2 months I change the glue board.

I would say best to do both, one outside, one inside. But I did buy the Katchy on sale for 12 bucks. It's been very good and efficient. The flowtron kills a bunch of bugs, spiders are eating good and making webs out of all the dead flying bugs killed by it.

Fruit flies come from eggs on fruit. If you wash or rinse your fruit when you bring it in your home for the first time, you won't ever have fruit fly issues. Been fruit fly free for 2 years now when I first learned that trick
I love mine and have it running 24/7 outta the corner of my garage (inside). Idk how it catches all the crap that it does but it does. It doesn't do much good for spiders but nothing a good handheld vacuum can't handle. For gnats, get sticky yellow pads.

I can say I've had this for years. Light bulb is still running. I go for days and nights straight without turning it off. Then some time without needing it. I can hear it zap everything that touches it. Sometimes moths get stuck and start to smoke. Make sure you keep this in a place that won't watch anything on fire.

the replacement lamp itself is $20 so you might as well purchase a whole backup at $20
