Hilarious! You should try some of them via the Canon EF-RF adapters. They work flawlessly on RF bodies. These lenses are all excellent.

I used mine once in 10 years... Get the 24-70 2.8 II instead. You'll love it. Almost never leaves my camera. This is a great price for that lens. It's a brilliant lens.

These prices are excellent. I'm almost tempted to buy the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM even though I own the Mark II, and there is really no reason to upgrade.

I own an rf 24-104, which is light years better than the ef 24-105 that you are raving about. Is it going to perform better than a cell phone? Absolutely, but the margins aren't as big vs a prime lens or something with a lower f-stop. And my guy, stop asking how long people have been in photography when you're over drooling over an ef 24-105.
Better but more expensive. Light years ? Not really.

I bet most people would be 50:50 on a comparison shot.

" However, while this lens is a little weaker than rivals at the shorter end of the zoom range"

Honestly, I rather use my phone than carry around a camera if I'm shooting with the 24-105 f4. 24-70 f2.8 is what I would carry around.
I agree! I own the RF 24-105 f4 and I often go for a lens with wider aperture. It's a very good lens, but not for my use cases.

EF lens are obsolete. Go with mirrorless and RF leneses
While I love my RF lenses, the adapters are awesome, especially with having things like the ND filter in the adapter. Makes ef lenses so versatile. Really great on the C70 or R7 for full frame field of view also.

show me the link its garbage.
The 2.8 is actually not as good quality in reviews. Research it.
Crazy comment. A full frame 30mp and you would rather have your phone. Ridiculous.
How long have you been doing photography ?
I think you're responding to a few different people, I'll also jump into the debate but sadly I have to side with the others. 24-105 isn't the move. Not a fan. Isn't a bad lens if you're starting out but you quickly outgrow it. I seriously regret buying it.

Seeing the discussion of a "walk around lens" and the 24-105 f4 here's my opinion: what are you walking around photographing? It's fine outside, but the moment you go to use it indoors you'll wish you had the extra f stops with a 2.8 like the 24-70mm. I do just use my phone as a "walk around" lens but if I want professional images I'm using the 2.8.

Source: I'm a professional photographer and I own 28-70 f/2, 24-105 f4, and the 70-200 f2.8.

Moral: you'll most likely want to upgrade from the 24-105 if you stick with it. It good, but not great.

Yes mainly used outdoors. And at 50% more, $400, $1200 refurb, I hope it would be better.
Not cost effective for me. I have a wide angle that goes lower than 24.

You've had a lens released in 2016 for 10 years? And you've kept a lens that you could sell in a heartbeat but only used it that one time?

I get that the 24-70 f/2.8 is optically the better lens (at least up to 70 mm), but the 24-105 has a lot of practical advantages (IS, cost, 70-105mm) that make it a reasonable purchase, especially if you're shooting stopped down most of the time anyway.

Good catch, I missed that.

Thank you for all of those rf/ef comparison comments, especially the one with 46 thumb down. My wife says yes!

Any ef-s lenses worth commenting on here? Been looking to replace my Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 IS since getting my R10.

Up until recently, no high quality professional lens had more than a 3x zoom. (Most recently there have been a couple notable exceptions to this rule due to some clever designs by Tamron and Samyang, so now we have some 4.3x high quality zooms with little compromises.) That's because of the laws of physics.

Those 50x zoom compact cameras one could buy 10 years ago are absolute garbage with tiny sensors.

Smartphones also do NOT have zooms. Dumb tech reviewers call them "zooms" because either they don't understand how optics work (many of them are in this camp) or they want to be invited back by Apple for the new iPhone's launch event next year. Apple won't even invite you back if you call the iPhone "the iPhone 15" as opposed to "iPhone 15". Oh no, it's "iPhone 15", not "the iPhone 15" because it's a person, not an object. WTF!?

No, there is not a single iPhone with a zoom lens. (There were a couple experimental Android phones with zooms. They are no longer made.)
Well that's completely not true. My S22 ultra has two optical zoom cameras, (3x and 10x). iPhone 15 has 5x optical zoom. Phones have had optical zoom for years.

Nope. Neither one of them have any zoom. They each have multiple prime lenses. The way they fake-zoom is they crop in until they reach the next prime lens. It's basically impossible to fit zoom lenses into them given their size. Even the prime lense they have are relatively simple, relying on designs dating back to the 70s. It's all good though. AI will fix it / upres it all soon.

You just think they are zoom lenses because Apple and Samsung lie about it / misuse the term. And tech reviewers parrott the lies because they want to be invited back for the launch even next year. Quite incredible actually.
