It's the principle. Not encouraging them to sell overpriced drives
This is about the price I'd drop for a 2TB version
I'm sorta 50/50 on it. I bought the system knowing its storage limitations, but I don't fully accept the pricing on the storage expansion. They're really ripping people off with those prices. The prices aren't low enough for me to buy, but I'm sure they are for others. I do always appreciate these posts because everyone has a different price point where they're willing to buy the proprietary storage. In the interim, I just use a regular portable HDD to move my games back and forth. I don't need all my games all the time.

Same here. $120 for 1TB of flash storage nowadays is highway robbery, regardless of the format.

That said, we'll probably have to wait until these are discontinued to hit that price. But this is slickdeals after all, and I am patient...

Best Buy also has this on sale for the same price. I was able to pickup today and use $30 of rewards certificates too.

the 2TB SSD I got for my PS5 I can reuse for a PC or use with a USB adapter ...

Weak sauce.

You could open it and try it with a steam deck or an adapter maybe, but yes, these are not worth it for that price atm.

2TB is $75-$110 for pretty good NVME drives now. Not paying for this trash. Will wait so they realize their mistake. This is the same thing everyone dealt with Sony on the PSP/Memory Stick and PS Vita's Crappy M2 Micro trash. Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Gotta say this is one factor where Sony did out-consumer their Microsoft console counterpart. Almost makes up for their embarrassing PS Plus tiers and pricing. Almost.
PSPLUS does offer yearly suscriptions which lower the price significantly tho

Going to bite with my 30% Discover promo discount. $90 is good enough. Can anyone confirm if I can swap between Xbox Series X and S?
Thanks for that idea, I forgot about my discover card. I also activated the 5% cash back for discover on Amazon. So $89.99 plus tax for the drive and $4.45 CB, making it $85.49. Slick enough for me!

Yes, you can swap the drive between consoles. Good for if there is a game you play a lot in one place and occasionally in another room or location on a second console for this.

Since both use the "Xbox Velocity Architecture" they should be close, or identical.. I did i quick google search and found some reddit post / reviews that seem to back this up, but I could not find a specific benchmark comparison.

But I am very brand loyal to WD, I have had other Seagate products that died an early death.
There was a point in time where every desktop I opened that had a HDD failure had a Seagate Barracuda 250 or 500GB drive in it, and most were juuuuust outside the warranty period (one was 2 days out and they wouldn't replace it). I started using WD drives to replace them and the whole experience has made me pretty loyal to them as well.

One thing Sony did better this gen is the expandable storage.

Received mine on Saturday. Transferred all my Series X/S optimized games to it. Love that I can hotswap it betwen my X and S. If it wasn't for that, this would definitely be a ripoff. Already had a 2TB SSD drive to move games around, but this was worth it for the convenience.

I plan to also bring it to my friend's house to play any of my digital games, without having to re-download them.
