I'm too tired to think this out, so what is the minimal buy-and-get-out with a phone on this?

Can you confirm that the pay off price will be $36? Usually on device payment plans you get a monthly credit and have to pay off the remaining retail balance to cancel. I don't see a monthly credit so I'm guessing this might be different but wanted to double check first.

Why would you pay for 60 days service and activation... instead of 3 days and no activation?

Unlocking happens either way in 60 days.

with all this hassle to cancell service, isn't it better off getting the $50+$40 = $90 phone from metro? that one, we just need to wait for 2 month to unlock?
Buying phones from Metro stores is not good experience. They are all third party stores and will cram your deal full of extras or they won't do the deal. That 90 will be a lot more by the time you walk out. Be prepared to pay tax on the full retail price also.

I wasn't aware of that deal. I was assuming a store purchase vs an online purchase.

Unfortunately, it's a bit frustrating. AT&T is currently not allowing me to pay early on the device. Now, we have to wait until the first-month bill is generated. This situation is different from what I experienced before because I used to be able to pay it off in just one day. When I checked online, there was no option to make an early payment, and even when I tried with a chat representative, the payment didn't go through. The store representative informed me that I must wait until the first-month bill is generated."

Final bill got generated after cancellation and it showed $88.53 balance.
Activation fee was not waived off.
Called customer service and the agent removed activation fee without much hassle.
Total bill now is at $53.53.
Excluding $36 for device, Verizon charged $17.53 for 2 days of service.

From the bill it looks like they charged for 3 days
75/31 = 2.42
2.42*3 = 7.25
75-7.25 = 67.74

$67.74 is the credit I see in my bill for the monthly plan.
So taxes and fees are (17.53 - 7.25) = $10.28.

Whether you opened a new line or added additional line?
new line.
I was able to do everything on the call. 46$ in total for a new unlocked phone ( of course need to wait 60 days)
