Walmart selling Samsung A53 for $36 for 128GB . Tax will be on these amounts only . Should not be on full amount as phone price is reduced.

You can pay off the phone at store in cash within first 14 days or online after 14 days. After you activate the phone on new line , you can cancel the line within 3 days to avoid activation charges.

For upgrading customers , they can try talking to verizon customer rep to remove $35 fee in next bill.

For verizon phone, no need to keep the line open for 60 days,
1. you can activate the phone on new line

2. Pay off the phone via customer service or in cash at verizon corporate store.
corporate stores are inclined not to take payment in cash. they may be aware of what folks are doing . thus they try to make it hard for you.
if corporate store denies u. politely but firmly insist u spoke with rep of verizon. and they assured u this can be done in corporate store. if still denied, ask for manager. if still denied, go to another corporate store.

3. cancel the line within 3 days and no activation fee . Pro-rated charges for line for 1-2 days only. do not worry about what bill says.

4. Phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days. No matter you use it on existing VZN line or keep it in drawer . even if u r no longer a customer , since u cancelled in three days. the phone will still unlock.

5. new customer, there will be a credit pull .most likely hard. existing customer. most likely a soft credit pull. remember this is post paid service.

6. if existing customer. consider: adding a line. then follow steps above, u can also simply port out the line u opened up. effectively cancelling the line. and not effect the other lines

share my experience from sd user.

I am not a current Verizon customer.
I ordered from Walmart Sunday (10/29) night.
Tax was $3 and change.
Phone arrived today (10/31 tuesday).
Activation was easy and basically completed by the phone itself with a new number.
I then set up an account on Verizon.com.
There already a bill in the system for a little more than $120 for activation, month of service and taxes.
Next bill estimate showed about $80.

After playing with the phone a few hours, I contacted Verizon by chat to cancel the account to make sure I am not charged an activation fee and so that Verizon only bills me the prorated use amount for 1 day.
Long story short, Verizon waived the activation fee, charged the full $36 for the phone and gave me a random credit that did not cover most of the monthly fee and taxes.
I think at first, they wanted a total of about $70 ($36 plus like $34 in fees).
I told the representative that made no sense given that I am cancelling the account within 1 day so the prorated cost should be about 3 or 4 dollars at most.
Chat representative gave me the run around but started applying what appeared to be random discounts.
At the end of the chat and subsequent follow up phone call, I was able to get the service fee reduced from $34 to $0.
Frankly, this was more trouble than it was worth.

Given that Verizon's unlock policy automatically unlocks the phone upon purchase (as opposed to activation), I expect this phone will unlock in 60 days

I'm too tired to think this out, so what is the minimal buy-and-get-out with a phone on this?
Can you confirm that the pay off price will be $36? Usually on device payment plans you get a monthly credit and have to pay off the remaining retail balance to cancel. I don't see a monthly credit so I'm guessing this might be different but wanted to double check first.
Why would you pay for 60 days service and activation... instead of 3 days and no activation?

Unlocking happens either way in 60 days.

if you order the phone online I am assuming the line activates at the time or the order or does it activate when phone is in hand and you activate it yourself by turning on the phone and inserting the sim?

question is,
1) can I go in and pay off the phone at a Verizon store before the phone ships and I activate? Today is Friday, so it will be until Tues/Wed before the phone reaches me
2) assuming the phone has to be paid off before I can cancel the line - when does the 3 day counter start - from the time of the order or the time I activate?

-- You can pay off as soon as you see the line added in your account. It will show $36 as financed. If its completely new account , then you will have to wait for device to receive and activate it. then you can pay off and cancel.

-- If adding to existing account , then 3 days will start from the time , you see the new line added in account by walmart.
If completely new account , then 3 days counter will start from the time , when you receive the device ,activate the line. Setup the online account , so you can see that everything is good. Walk into the store , pay off $36 and cancel or port out the line.

Thanks for the quick response! Also does cancelling within 3 days of activation ensure $0 bill ( activation fee + plan cost refunded in full) or is the plan cost prorated?

I do see that the activation fee is refunded if you cancel within 3 days

I do not have a verizon account.
I am looking to purchase this item to use just the camera features. I have an A52 and am happy with the camera on it, I am assuming at this point the cameras are about the same.
Could someone with some know-how explain if I would be able to use this as just a home browser/camera like it's a tablet? What will I have to pay to get this?

Do I go to Walmart or Verizon to pay off the phone? Also after two months is the phone automatically unlocked or do they have a special process?
