This is simply the fastest mainstream external drive you can possibly own (especially because of SUSTAINED read/write speeds) and anyone with a newish motherboard should have USB 3.2 Gen 2x2.

I ignore the Thunderbolt cult of Jobs...

Looks like they're matching Best Buy member price but they charge tax on the original price not the discounted price.

Thunderbolt is an Intel thing, not an Apple thing.

And yes, there are faster thunderbolt SSDs out there if anyone need it and cares to look, but this is a nice form factor.

Of course, but because The Apple Corporation is so command-and-control and its minions went all-in for Thunderbolt (versus USB upgrades for the rest of the world), Thunderbolt is a disciple of the Cult of Jobs. Cross-compatibility is never assured; USB 4.0 might close the gap.

Thuderbolt SSDs also aren't guaranteed to beat this drive, even if the maximum specs suggest it. Heat management and sustained speeds via cache are the strength of this model.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say - Apple is supporting both TB4 and USB4. Samsung chose not to make the T9 USB4. Don't blame Apple for that.

So you blame Apple for having an TB3/4 option that enabled much better throughput and functionality over USB 3? You should blame the cheap PC manufacturers that didn't include TB3/4 in their systems due to cost savings.

Just to be clear - there is nothing here that you can really blame Apple for - at a technical level they are supporting both TB4 and USB4. The USB4 spec does not require compatibility with 3.2 2x2 (20 Gbps) - only 2x1 (10 Gbps). In that way 2x2 essentially became an abandoned standard. When Apple chose to go with the more modern USB implementation they could not have known the plans of accessory makers. By all accounts the T9 should have been USB4 20Gbps - it's a real shame that it isn't. 3.2 2x2 support across the board is likely to die off as USB4 prevalence grows - unless the standard is changed to include it. But I think that ship has sailed.
