That ice machine is completely different. To the ice connoisseurs, you're basically saying, "why would you spend $100k+ for a Porsche when you can buy a used Civic for $10k?" The keyword here is "Nugget ice."

Great product-IF.. You only use purified water-That is the only water I use in it, and I only clean it with purified water-so no tap water ever goes in mine-and it stay clean and has worked fine for several years..

Just here to say I've owned this model for a little over a year now and it has been running continuously ever since we bought it. No issues, and I only use distilled water.

If you like the nugget style ice that much, it's worth it. On the question of whether or not it's worth it to you based on cost, only you know your finances and can answer that question.

I own one of these, and it's amazing. There are downsides - there's maintenance involved, it's noisy at times, but the ice it makes is well worth it to me.
Does the ice stay frozen in the container or does it slowly melt if you don't use enough?

Ice is ice. No matter how small or what ever shape it is. It makes a drink cold. Simple as that. My crappy fridge does that for me already.

Is there no option for larger ice cubes?
This makes nugget ice, like Sonic. There is no such thing as larger nugget ice.

I think most of the issues are because people don't clean it. Ours got horrible and I spent a weekend running vinegar and then disinfecting it and it has behaved like it was brand new since then with appropriate cleaning. Just take care of it and you won't have issues.
My friends and I have had several of these. Some of us cleaned them on a regular basis, others didn't. All of the machines stopped working (after warranty expired), and they won't repair any of them. Those were all version 1, so maybe the version 2 will last longer. Honestly, I have thought about a class action suit to force them to have a repair facility. Otherwise they are just junk when they quit, and they all quit.

I mean purchase at your own risk I guess. I don't think Amazon should be the go-to source for "Commercial Ice Machines". If the company puts as much time/effort in the Quality Control of their product as they do creating the advertisements/descriptions on the website, I think I'll pass.
"The old and new packaging randomly shipped, product quality as one, please rest assured that the purchase." -- SAY WHAT???

I've been buying bags of CFA ice for years.

Trying to decide if this is worth it.
I'm in the same boat. CFA nugget ice is $1.59 for a 5lb bag. I can go through about 2-3 a week. $4.77 a week = $248 a year, so would take a little over 2 years for me to see any monetary savings from this machine, assuming CFA ice doesn't go up in price.

Pros and cons either way. Pros are that you could probably use it at parties and events instead of going out to buy ice, but minimal savings there versus just buying a couple extra bags. You would always have a way to make ice right at your fingertips, no more needing to remember to pick it up at CFA. If the machine lasts 2+ years (which it will since Costco warranty) then you'll save money in the long run.

Cons would be added expense for filters (whatever that is) and having the maintain the equipment and keep it clean, etc, versus just throwing out an empty bag from CFA when it's empty. Much higher upfront cost instead of paying $1.59 x however many bags you use, per week.

Tbh, for me it's probably closer to 3 years to break even, as I'd probably use only purified water in the machine, which is more expensive than tap. And with filters and everything on top of it, can't really decide if it's worth it.
