Any thoughts on how good is this TV for general viewing and gaming?

When the X90CL goes on clearance in winter/spring 2024, is there a good chance it goes for less than $1,500?

I like this model a lot but am not in a hurry to buy.

I tried to get this for this price about a month ago from Costco. So far two TVs have been delivered broken (can't tell until I set them up). thankfully Costco is great about it, but I'm cancelling the third and looking for a different one. feels like it wasn't meant to be. only real negative according to rtings is not good for wide angle viewing.

It is awesome, much better than i expected. I returned a U8K, got this TV and for what it is, I couldn't be happier with it.

Oh and Sony is considered the best for image processing so, it does great for general viewing of both SD and UHD content.

Rtings ratings for wide angle viewing are ridiculous. This tv is fine for 100 degrees or less as is the Hisense U8K. You would never know it reading Rtings. I just looked extensively at these sets today. How wide of a viewing angle does one need? 130, 180, get an OLED.

TCL QM8, Hisense U8K and Sony X90L are good depending on your color preferences and needs. Hisense U7K may drop to 1500 or lower for 85 inch, probably best bang of 2023.

I appreciate it, I had overlooked the TCL QM8 and Hisense U7K (which I had confused with the A7). With a couple of different options, I have a better chance of getting one under $1,500 come super bowl time.

My understanding is that viewing angle is measured from dead center being zero degrees and going from there. So I'm trying to figure out if you are saying its fine for 100 degrees... I guess you mean its good up to a 50 degree viewing angle. This would be right on the edge of what I want optimally because I want to be able to see the tv from my kitchen which is to the side of my family room. But rtings says there's "color washout" at 24, and and brightness loss at 33 degrees. It is good to hear that you don't find it to be significant - probably I wouldn't either, but I think they need to keep their measurements relative to other TVs, otherwise what is the point?

Yes. Will it degrade on the fringes? Yes. But it is not bad at all. What they measure and what you actually see can be two different things. I often have found that to be the case with them. Go see it for yourself and determine what is acceptable to you. But I would not rule it out because of their measurements. There really aren't many TV's in the middle with viewing angles, unless you are ok with poor contrast sets or incredibly expensive sets. I don't know if this tv is better than the U8K or QM8(Rtings thinks the later are), but I can tell you that the color calibration out of the box and clarity on all sources is better. The U8K and QM8 have a more OLED looking picture, but don't have the same level of detail and dimension. Use case scenario matters. The x95L on the other hand is fantastic.

I went to BestBuy and looked at this TV today. I too had read the RTINGs review, but it was plenty bright from an angle and looked great.

Is there any chance the price could go lower in the next couple of months?

$2k has been every day price for for a while now. Warranty is extra. Wish they just discount it
