    Noise canceling is better on the Sony's. Bose are the only headphones I heard on par. I don't know if you care for 3d audio. I don't think pixel buds will do that.
    As far as longevity. I went though 4 pair of sony buds. Batteries died in all of them. The longest I got a pair to last was a little over a year

    Loved the sound/ANC on the XM4s, but not giving Sony another dime for their garbage firmware and battery issues. Just a matter of time before these fail too.

    I bought these from Best Buy brand new at full price. Was very disappointed by the noise cancelling aspect of these ear buds. On the app, when you toggle the noise canceling mode on or off, it hardly makes a difference. I then played a you tube video of airplane noise and tried the ear buds, I could still hear the noise come through. I then switched to my samsung buds pro 2 and was shocked at the difference. Almost night and day. This is even after I updated to the latest firmware on the Sony buds. Very disappointed. And I saw several youtube reviews saying this is the best in class. Maybe I had a defective model? Not sure. I ended up returning mine

    Got 2 pairs of wf-1000xm4 from secondpity a year ago for $99/ea. They have been great, no battery issues, nc works great. The touch controls aren't great but after a little tuning, (turn off DSEE and prioritize stable bt connection). They have been great. The Sony software is a bit clunky, but I can tolerate it.

    As far as being in someone else's ears, they have been cleaned, nobody ever got an ear infection from refurb earbuds.

    That said the xm4 was about a year old at that time and they may have fixed problems by then.

    My suggestion wait until they hit $99 on secondpity, they will have fixed the bugs and you'll save quite a bit of $

    I know a lot of people had the issue, neither of my pairs ever did. I did manage to lower the battery life on mine after a year of HEAVY use (day and night) use.

    If you have the XM4 and they work, i advise most people to stick with them unless you have small ears and the XM5 is a better fit. The XM5s are more touch sensitive and prone to accidentally trigger ANC on/off or pause/start your playback (annoying during sleep). And large ear gels won't fit in the newer, more-compact case. (Very frustrating)

    As arunix said, if you bought yours refurb from Secondipity, like most on SD did (and like I did), go look for the Ebay email giving you 2 years Allstate/Squaretrade warranty. I just sent mine in last week because my right earbud battery life dropped from 6-8 hours (depending whether I only have NC or actively listening to music or podcasts) to 1-2 hours, seemingly overnight. I bought them in Sept 2022, and the battery started failing in Oct 2023. I just got an email from Allstate saying it couldn't be repaired so they're mailing me a check.

    I think instead of looking for the Ebay email, you can also try creating an "Plan Holder" account using your EBay email at squaretrade.com, and it will populate with items that included the 2 year warranty.

    Thanks for the break down. I have the pixel buds and they do spatial audio. I think the noise cancellation is pretty good and really like the active listening. I was thinking of getting a pair for my wife which is why I asked, but might consider these since noise cancellation is a higher priority for her.

    I have the XM2 and I love them. If you don't want to spend this much on a pair of earbuds then Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro are pretty good.

    Yeah, I'm currently in the process of a refund with the same issue. Even that will probably take a month or more.

    Usually, the passive seal does most of the work to block out the sound. The tip might not work well with your ear canal.

    I was thinking about getting this and a $10 passive ear muff noise blocking for sleeping. I keep on breaking my high-priced headphones for the last 20 years.

    I wanted to add my 2ยข after using. I really like them and the passive noise cancelling was good for me. The active noise cancelling blew me away though. I couldn't hear a thing besides my music. I was also impressed by the ambient sound features. I didn't notice a difference in music quality when I turned on ambient sound, one of my biggest pet peeves with the Jabra 75t. Not sure if that'll change on a windy day though. Thanks for the deal!
