just FYI if you compare pics of this jacket to the down puffers on Eddie Bauer's website, the EB jackets have denser quilting (the puffy rectangles). The Costco jacket has nearly half the amount of stitching. Larger quilting means fewer lines to sew, therefore faster and cheaper to make. Denser quilting means that better insulation because the filling less room to shift around, it traps heat better, and it packs down smaller for travel. The Costco jacket is filled with a combo of "down and feather" but the other one just says "down". Feather is going to include those pokey feather bits that come out. $40 is still a good price for what it is, but the better quality jacket is only $25 more on EB.

Than you monkeyass408 for your insight about the objectionable smell of this jacket. I too experienced a bad smell after i used a down jacket on a long hike and didnt realize it was the feathers.

I purchased one in store. I don't notice any offensive odor. Maybe they had a bad batch of feathers that weren't clean?

I have had a version of this jacket from a year or two ago. I didn't notice any smell on my jacket. Overall the jacket is decent quality, and has held up well with moderate use. If it's severely cold this jacket will need some additional layers to keep comfortable. I have used this jacket in temps down to the 20-30s with a fleece underneath and have been pleased with its performance.

Bought one last year. There was a little hole on front pocket. Everywhere I go the feather giving trails

Been using this jacket since 3 years now. This is my default goto jacket .. very lightweight yet good warmth into 30s. Anything colder I wear a sweater /fleece underneath.
When it's wet it can give off a smell (as do all down jackets), but it's not a big deal really. Light drizzles/snow are fine... only if it gets wet in rain.
For the price, its totally worth it. Oh btw the costco version includes a hood too!

I bought one of these last year and opted to return it due to the smell. Wear the jacket outside for 30 minutes and it smells awful like duck feathers. I ended up grabbing one of the Gerry brand and am very satisfied.
