I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

You do not need to keep line for 60 days. Cancel the line also. Just wait for 60 days to over.
Can you walk us where in the process do you exactly cancel the line and account? Assume signing up as a brand new customer of Verizon with this deal.

I currently do not have a Verizon line.
Can I proceed with the following steps?

1. I buy an iPhone 13 with a 36-month contract and create a new Verizon account.
Can I join any plan when creating a Verizon account?
2. I call Verizon to pay off the installment in a lump sum. $299 + Tax: ?
3. To unlock the phone, I maintain the line for 60 days (pay for 2 months).
4. On the 61st day, I cancel the line.
5. The iPhone 13 will be unlocked and usable with other carriers (Mint, T-Mobile, etc.).
If you maintain the line for 60 days you are paying nearly $200 more (for plan + activation + taxes) on top of 299+tax

Thats strange. Every time you post deal for Verizon postpaid like this and every time have to explain all steps to the folks out there. I am not sure , if they are all new and never seen these deals or they just donot want to do some research on their own.

For verizon phone, no need to keep the line open for 60 days,
1. you can activate the phone on new line
2. Pay off the phone via customer service or in cash at verizon corporate store
3. cancel the line within 3 days and no activation fee . Pro-rated charges for line for 1-2 days only.
4. Phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days. No matter you use it on existing VZN line or keep it in drawer .

I hope no more question around this.

Once you cancel verizon acct within 3 days, who will unlock and how will it be unlocked after 60 days?
I believe the device somehow automatically unlocks. That's why I was posting my list so I fully understand the steps. Don't want to do this buy and then somehow get screwed into a 3yr contract for overpriced cellular service.

2. Pay off the phone via customer service or in cash at verizon corporate store.
corporate stores are inclined not to take payment in cash. they may be aware of what folks are doing . thus they try to make it hard for you.
if corporate store denies u. politely but firmly insist u spoke with rep of verizon. and they assured u this can be done in corporate store. if still denied, ask for manager. if still denied, go to another corporate store.

3. cancel the line within 3 days and no activation fee . Pro-rated charges for line for 1-2 days only. do not worry about what bill says.

4. Phone will be automatically unlocked in 60 days. No matter you use it on existing VZN line or keep it in drawer . even if u r no longer a customer , since u cancelled in three days. the phone will still unlock.

5. new customer, there will be a credit pull .most likely hard. existing customer. most likely a soft credit pull. remember this is post paid service.

6. if existing customer. consider: adding a line. then follow steps above, u can also simply port out the line u opened up. effectively cancelling the line. and not effect the other lines

I hope no more question around this.
yes and no.

i have been following ur threads .
i do like the deals.
one of these days hope to find a deal that i can take advantage of.

i would suggest u post exactly this (what u posted above) in the opening post of every V/WM thread u make .

Two things missing. What plan is suggested? I need two phones.

The big issue is the risk. The risk of not being permitted to pay it off within the 3 days. Can you just hand back the devices? Then probably a restocking fee lol.

And I get it, just port the number out of Verizon which will cancel the account leaving a balance they wouldn't let you pay off. Just risk of things going sideways for a phone that should simply be able to be bought outright for <$400

This might be my ignorance, but when did we start selling 2 generations ago phones on a 2-3 year plan?

in general, idea is for 1 phone. 1 at a time.
look the deal is "seemingly" complicated to begin with.
ultimately, cant get all permutations.

folks have to use a bit of logic, and also and this is big, read the posts.
lots of folks give good tips

plan doesnt matter.
its gonna be cancelled in 3-days anyway.

risk is minimum, if they do not let u cancel. which is rare.
port away, effectively cancelling everything.
making full payment due, immediately.
which is either the 299 or 99
no more than that.

u said:

will usually sellers set price not buyers.
regardless if u think the phone outright should be

a phone that should be <$400.
unfortunately, that is not reality
cursory search says ip13 is abt 600 today.

apple will generally keep value
