If i cancel now (while still waiting for the phone to arrive), then i will receive in the mail a phone with no plan that has never been turned on / never had a SIM installed.

What then happens with that phone when I want to actually use it? For example if i pop my wife's existing VZW sim into it - will it just work? Even though I never turned it on before?
Canceling line before paying off phone will break the contract I think there's a line in the agreement where they can force a return of the phone. The "deal" is attached to the line so phone needs to be payed off first. Then you can do whatever you want with the phone after canceling the line, will Auto Unlock after 60 days or can use on Verizon beforehand (I assume) others have stated phone is activated upon purchase you can confirm with Verizon before you do anything because that is important, needs to be activated

Tried to do it here:
https://secure.verizon.com/access.../reg/start

Step 1: Input my new Verizon phone number.
Step 2: Added my billing zip and pin, didn't work, unable to validate as an active Verizon user.
The other phone I ordered which hadn't shipped yet, I couldn't get pass step 1.
Thanks for sharing the link. Do you think it means that the clock starts ticking after receiving the phone? There seems to be people who can access their online account already, suggesting that the clock starts the day after ordering from Walmart, which means that we have like a 1 day time period to cancel before we get hit with the activation fee.

Added a line into my account. Paid off at VZ corporate store , do not try to pay off at authorized store , they will not accept the payment . called customer service to cancel the line. Bill showing $5 for that line in next bill. Total cost - $299+ $20 tax + $5 bill.

Just as fyi , my account is 2 years old with 7 line and all are paid off so bill is $168 for 7 lines. They did not ask much question while cancelling the line.

Good Luck all.
Congrats. That was smooth.

I ordered yesterday 11/08, and read the agreements during the order which said first payment due on 11/29. That's very typical for postpaid bill, payment due on 20th day of billing cycle.

You're not reading my post closely.

- I have ALREADY paid off the phone with Verizon.

- I am still waiting for the phone to be delivered.

- i am trying to understand if there are any downsides to cancelling the service NOW while i wait for the phone delivery. E.g. will the phone work (with a different Verizon SIM) if I cancel the Unlimited plan now?

Yesterday when I purchased, Verizon wouldn't let me create an account. Today when the phone shipped it let me make an account.

I can see my first bill which is $131.49 for the cheapest plan for the first month which includes that activation fee. What a joke.

So tomorrow I should just bring Verizon corporate store $300 cash? Looking on the app, under the iPhone 13 device it will let me get a number transfer pin to port out the number so this will effectively let me close the account. It appears these steps can all be done without having the physical phone.

Edit- Also USMobile appears to like the IMEI and was willing to go ahead with the number transfer

Did you pay off the phone at a corporated store or by calling Verizon?

Good to know. Sorry to keep bothering you, you mentioned paying in corporate store with cash. I assume I can pay with card? Just want to be sure haha
VZN store will not accept card before 14 days. It will only be cash.

Thank you for your response. Good luck. My 11/08 order is still stuck at 'order preparing' stage.

I called Verizon twice now and gave them my number and they said again that it was not yet activated, and I couldn't pay it off or create an account till I received the phone. How do you guys create/add the line to the Verizon portal?

I'm not sure. I called them twice earlier today and they said my line is not activated yet and that it will not be activated until I turn on the phone. I also just got an email from Walmart saying the phone needs to be activated via Walmart activations too. This contradicts what others who have had luck creating a Verizon account with their number before their phone arrived, and saw that their lines were already activated Confused

Thanks for that detail. Is offering to pay off using cash the trick in getting a corporate store to pay off the device within a day of activation?

I know that you're in a situation where you added a line in an existing account and I'm signing up as a new account, but I'm going to ask anyway: when does the 3 day clock start ticking? My phone is expected to arrive on 11/11 despite the 11/8 pre-order. If the clock started ticking on 11/8, does that pretty much mean that I cannot avoid the activation fee since I cannot pay until 11/11 or later?
