I received iPhone 13 today from walmart..
After inserting the SIM card and activating it, I chatted with Verizon.
The first agent refused the payoff and said it would be possible in 14 days.
The second agent sent me the URL right away and I paid $299.
Then I cancel line. I need 60days for unlock.

I tried to do it with an iPhone 14 in walmart.com when I saw this deal. It asked me to login to my Verizon (I'm with vzn), and asked for permission to pull credit. I declined. I think anything with a payment plan will need a credit check.

Though this is 36 months contract , but once you activate the line, you can pay off it via chat rep or in cash in verizon store . Once phone is paid , you can cancel the line with in 3 days to avoid activation / upgrade fees. Wait for 60 days to unlock the device.

THIS IS NOT MONTHLY CREDITS. AMOUNT FINANCED will be $299 or $99 , depends which phone you select.

Ya this is also the conclusion I've come to.
11/8 purchased
11/9 shipped and Verizon document shows it was activated 11/9
11/9 I paid off with CS on the phone after some push reading the contract. Though I show a payment and the device charge is now removed from the bill, I hope she did it right.
11/10 day 2, sit on my hands
11/11 day 3, turn on device, make a phone call, transfer number out to USMobile which will cancel the line. I like the number and I think Verizon's number pool might be older so hopefully less spam.

Note: USMobile shows the IMEI currently as good so it appears that it would let me start service on the device. The question is, is it because the device hasn't been turned on? Maybe never turning on the device may to our benefit?
Wouldn't 11/10 be day 3? If you purchased morning of 11/8, 11/8 day 1 11/9 day 2, 11/10 day 3. If you cancel 11/11 it will be after day 3
Unless it's from activation date which might be 11/9 cause that's when it shipped? Idk

you might run a risk by not activating your phone by putting physical sim inside and making couple of calls.
I hear you. It could be bad or good. Might skip the 60 day lock? My account already shows the IMEI and SIM so I wonder.

Guys , please don't call and pay off with customer service and get it cancelled by same service rep. Try to payoff at store and then call customer service to cancel line. If you pay off and cancel with same rep , you might get blocked to again take Verizon account in future so you may not be able to take benefits again if any more deal in future. It's a warning as I faced this in past.
To avoid calling customer care , now this deal is available at store so try to purchase from store. They will accept upto 99% of the payment as down payment in store , which you can pay using credit card. Then rest of the amount around $3-$5 , you can pay via IVR or at store in cash. No one will ask question as they will see the amount owed is very less.

Call customer service to cancel the line or simply port out the line same day. You will be under 3 days and will not have activation charges.

Also , using above , there is less chances of abusing the VZN system so in case , we have same kind of deal in future , VZN or walmart will not put any kind of restriction and everyone will be able to take benefit again.

I hope this make sense. Again , try avoid calling CS to get restricted next time. I am putting this warning as it took me almost 6-8 months to get my SSN of their blocked list.

Got all the way to step 7 then the bot said it was going to send a link to the device and then some seconds later it said to chat with someone and pay a $10 agent assistance fee or press 1 to continue. Then it said it was outside of hours or something and auto hung up.

Tried calling again and it said the same thing. After saying "pay off device" the bot said something like "Our centers are currently closed, please visit the app for assistance." Not sure why the bot would tell me this if I'm not trying to get transferred to an agent.
Maybe the bot is dumb.. or maybe just gave it 10-30 mins after auto pay setup so the system can be synced?

At the very beginning, I called the other customer number I posted before like 6 times without auto pay setpup, the bot said it was going to send a link to my phone and goodbye. Then I completed the auto pay setup but it didn't help. Then I looked for other customer service number and after 13 mins ot auto pay setup i called 1.800.837.4966, surprisingly it worked this time.

Maybe try "Payoff device" or "device payoff"?

Thanks, that was the number I called too. I'll give it another hour, maybe takes time for payment method to be updated.

1. create Verizon account after Walmart shipping confirmation.
2. Add credit card for autopay
3. call 611 and payoff device.
4. Receive iPhone, make a call, then chat CS rep and cancel line all within 3 days……maybe

The device will not be unlocked if you don't turn it on.

So you mean turn it on and let it connect prior to canceling?

According to everyone i talk to the device was activated the minute I made my account. Not sure how true, that is but last agent said it should be unlocked we shall see tomorrow. I will follow up and worst case I will return to Walmart within the alloted return period. I'm getting this for my parents and don't really need it so it's a gamble I'm willing to take.
If you don't turn on device with verizon sim card, you run risk of not being able to unlock after 60 days because that phone number was never "activated" with the sim inside.

I called about a minute after I added the payment method, and it worked as described. I called around 7:35am EST and hours of operation seem to be 8am-7pm EST. I would guess that the bot operates a little differently during hours of operation.

Alright guys. I am able to get everything done before the Verizon phone arrives tomorrow.
Looks like the new number is activated once Walmart ships it. I created my Verizon account when I made my purchase and it wouldn't let me link the phone number at that time, but the linking was successful earlier tonight. I chat with a Verizon online rep to confirm that my line was already activated before I preceded to cancel my new line.
I paid off the device by calling 18008374966 and asked the bot "pay off device" (credit goes to ldsp for figuring that out). Just try call them again if you can't get it to work the first time, maybe the bot just couldn't parse the command from your voice input. Make sure you enter a payment method on your account prior to the call. Once it is paid off, you should receive a payment confirmation email from them.
I used the online chat to ask them to cancel or disconnect my new line. The online rep also showed me the charges, including the prorated charges (11/9-11/10), govt fees and a $35 activation fee, total came out to be around $56. I told her that I am cancelling the line within 3 days so the activation fee should be waived off and she said she will make an exception to subtract the activation fee from the final amount, which comes out to be $14.22. The rep also mentioned that I will be charged the next month's bill in advance but it will be refunded back to me (not sure how that works though). At the end, the line was removed from my account before I even opened the new phone, maybe I will just put the unopened iphone13 in my drawer for 60 days Smilie

So the break down is $25.79 tax + $299.00 payoff + $14.22 VZN fees = $339.01

Good night everyone Smilie
You will only know after 60 days, but since you did not use your phone on verizon network, you run a risk of phone not unlocking at all, even though paid off.

I guess I'll just wait until I get the phone, won't be canceling the line before I get the phone so I'll just eat up the activation fee, but I want to at least turn on the phone and make a call or two before canceling the line then wait 60 days.
