It's back! Limited Time Offer!
Your points are worth 10%-50% more
Until 11/30/23 or while supplies last, your Chase points are worth more when you redeem for any product on the Apple® Ultimate Rewards® Store.*

Chase Sapphire Preferred is 25% more.
Chase Freedom Unlimited is 10% more.

https://ultimaterewardspoints.chase.com/

For example:

The $1199 iPhone Prom Max is 79,900 points (plus tax if applicable) if you have the Reserve (so retail * 66.7 points). Effectively 1/3 off at a penny per point.

If you have a card with a $99 ish annual fee, I suspect you get 25% extra (so retail * 80 points). Effectively 20% off at a penny per point.

If you have a no-annual-fee card, you likely get 10% extra (so retail * 91 points). About 9% off at a penny per point.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

But what if you aren't traveling much and need a new iPhone? Not everyone is looking for a 4 cent pp redemption on a round trip business class flight to Zimbabwe. Why not buy airline gift cards when they go on sale? (Like the recent Southwest cards at Costco).

Also worth noting you get extended warranty and purchase protection when you pay with points (you don't when you pay with gift cards).
You are really better off buying apple gift cards when they have promos or Amex offers to buy Apple giftcards for 20% to 25% off and using the UR points for travel to maximize the value.
I can get an iphone 15 pro for 66,600 points ($660 cash value points)

tempting

I personally find it easy enough to get more value out of those points by transferring to and booking Hyatt hotel stays. Target redemption value for those points are 2 cents per point.

Exactly my point. Travel/hotel stays gets the most value on UR points. Most people here see Apple products as instant gratification but neglect to see the real deal.

I don't think it matters if it's all on the CSR card, all on points, or any split between the two. See below for the terms of each per Chase:

"Extends the time period of the U.S. manufacturer's warranty by one additional year, on eligible warranties of 3 years or less when item is purchased with an eligible Chase card or with rewards earned on an eligible Chase card"

"Can repair, replace or reimburse you for eligible items in the event of theft or damage when items are purchased with an eligible Chase card or with rewards earned on an eligible Chase card"
Thank you for finding the passage Smilie , really appreciate it

Not if you don't travel, or like to stay with friends or home rentals. Or travel via RV or like to go camping.

Value is relative, not absolute.

When you go to a restaurant, do you order the thing on the menu that provides the most calories for your dollar?

Or do you get what you want that, yes, maybe you wouldn't normally buy, but it's a deal since it is on special and maybe 1/3 normal price?

Use your points for the things you enjoy.

Even come say "once" in this thread…"hey guys..I know you all love deals…did you also know you could transfer points for travel and get a better value if you do x, y, and z?" That'd be fine. Maybe make your own post on SD and add a link to your deal.

Is it better to spend the points to buy flights / hotel using the UR portal, or transfer to partners, or to buy on the card and pay yourself back?

It's easy to get discounts on flights and hotels. Unless you are putting this stuff on business expense accounts, there is no reason to pay full price. 3000 a night for hotel is like Monopoly money. Someone else is likely getting the same room comped.

Business/first on international is nice, but I wouldn't spend thousands of dollars a seat for it. Would you? How much would you spend in actual dollars? That's the true value of points.

33% discount on an unlocked off contract iPhone is a pretty good deal and better than just about anything else going. And you can take your metro pcs iPhone and sell it for 400% profit and stay off contract.

buying a newer model iphone is never a good deal, even at 1/3 off.

Ordered an iPad with this one year and it took forever to arrive. Hopefully that has improved.

Same, bought an iPhone 13 Pro Max 2 years ago through a similar Chase UR Apple deal and it took nearly 1.5-2 months to arrive. It might be different now, but just a PSA for those considering doing the same.

I dunno. Airfare or hotel is the definition of instant gratification. The flight is over with hours. A phone you can use for years and actually has significant resale value.

For Hyatt and for business or higher flights transfers to airlines/hotels are almost universally higher value (usually MUCH higher)--- Hyatt can yield 2-3 cents a point pretty easily, and biz/first flights often in the 4-10 cent a point range.

For coach flights it's a bit more YMMV depending where you're going, when, and airline options you have... often you can still beat the portal with transfers, but it's not as much a slam dunk... (Southwest airlines for example the portal will often win because transferred points are usually only worth 1.4c vs 1.5 in the portal- plus portal bookings are treated as cash bookings by Southwest, earning you points- OTOH taxes are much lower on transferred point reward flights, so you even that's not a slam dunk on the portal side depending on the fare.

Usually I don't use points for coach at all unless it's a significant sweet spot (for example you can often get short haul domestic flights for 7500 Avios on AA via the BA website if you can find availability that works for your dates- but if you CAN find dates, esp. when they run a transfer bonus to Avios, it can get you well north of 2c a point on coach which is pretty good)

If you don't travel why are you paying a large annual fee for a travel credit card? (which is required to get the largest discounts discussed here)... the AF JUST in hopes of getting 33% off an iphone once a year seems a dubious strategy.

It's a fine strategy for the last 4-5 years.

300-400k points a year on other cards moved to this one is the way the Reserve pencils easily.

No, don't get the reserve as your main spending chase card. Yes, move your points to it for max benefit.

Saying the Reserve card is only for travel is only because that's how you use it. I don't and it is by no means dubious.
