If you have purchased any of these dressers or cabinets within the last 14 days at the original price, contact IKEA customer support and ask for a price protection reimbursment. As long as the purchase was within the last 14 days they will reimburse you. I paid $220 for the BRIMNES 4 drawer dresser on Oct 20th and since it was within 14 days they offered me a $50 refund (between the sale price and what i paid). If you have their family plan, it would be covered for 90 days. Very helpful if you got some of the more expensive items on sale.

I disagree. I recently bought a house twice the size of my last so I had a bunch of furniture to buy. I tried Walmart, Home Depot, target, costco, home goods, some local place, and ikea. Many pieces returned and I still have a piece from HD, Costco & Target. But I am most happy with my IKEA pieces. My house is now well over half IKEA. They just hold up with nice veneers and look great.

IKEA you can get a nice strong king bed for $700. Costco was like $1200 and was paint slopped, off gassing, low quality bed board swaying. IKEA does use a lot of real wood pieces but does use lower quality where it doesn't matter and I have no complaints from my 4 bedroom sets (Idanas, Hemnes & Malm). There are certainly very fancy places that charge $4k for a bed. I just don't understand the price when IKEA is so close at a fraction of the price. I'd rather add more to my investments.

How are some of these normally $5-600 with all fake wood? I can understand the sub $300 ones.

1. Inflation
2. You're really paying for the easy assembly, customer service, and consistent production quality. Amazon furniture may look similar for cheaper, but it'll be more frustrating to assemble, generally speaking. I personally have only good things to say about their call support.

Consistency is great but know that it also means consistent poor quality except some of their high quality products.

Don't forget: ikea is getting rid of the 5% discounts whenever you'd scan your barcode.

Quality isn't great. Good for dorms/rental properties. Save up for something better made if you can.

IKEA may be great for the "have to have brand new now" case, but I'd recommend checking estate sales for well crafted real wood at prices below IKEA. Habitat for Humanity has something called "ReStores" that are full blown stores to sell donated furniture. There are similar used/antique stores as well, and I'd recommend checking them before going to IKEA.

That said, I'm still in for 2 on MALM dressers. I've had one before and they are ideal for storing paperback books. No idea if most dressers (typically with 4 thin legs) can handle the weight, but a previous MALM certainly did.

Not all of them are fake wood. Hemnes dressers are solid wood, I have several of them.
