I bought this for the $29 price 2 years ago. I never owned a shop-vac prior. Wife liked the silver aesthetic better than the ugly bright orange plastic vacs that you usually see. We call ours R2D2. I use it to vac debris around our back patio and garage. Wind blows lots of bits from our junipers, plus leaves, spider webs, dead bugs, etc. The vac does a good job, zero complaints. If the dry cloth filter gets too dusty then the safety valve kicks in and the filter needs to be thoroughly beaten which I can only assume is normal. This doesn't happen too often.
I've used it a couple times to suction up some water when one of my window wells was collecting a bunch during multi-days of rain. Did a good job but boy the 5-ish gallons fill up quick and you're dumping it out over and over. Wish it had some way to suction water and somehow run out another hose continuously but I don't even know enough to say if that's a feature you can get.
I have 2 complaints, not major: It tips over kind of easy when empty, that's annoying. The wet filter is flimsy and will tear easily. I tore mine and writing this now reminds me that I need to replace mine.
Overall, I feel I made a good purchase at a bargain price, and hey, it's still running!
I have one of these, it works as expected. We have two giant dogs and basically hide it behind the sofa and get the dog hair on the floor twice a week.

Life is too short to do a ton of comparison shopping on $40 shop vacs.

its a normal cotton filter. the bag you see is a prefilter. it is not needed but helps with longevity of the cotton filter

I bought 2 for $29 last time.

I use high-efficiency bags and high-efficiency round cartridge filter (same time) and this vac still has plenty of suction and doesn't blow the very fine dust anywhere (thanks to the bag and filter). I've used it to suck up general lawn debris, drywall dust, random car garbage, and it follows my saw when cutting wood/particle board. Everything stays in the bag. All the shopvac (c) bags and filters work fine with it.

I have the 8 gallon 6 HP from the $29 deal and despite being bulky and awkward to use sometimes, it became our main vacuum due to the power.

We have other vacuums, waaaay more expensive, ergonomic and portable, but nothing compares to this -for the price I paid-, I installed an OEM HEPA filter, and the bags have also some high filtration rating, and the air that comes out of this is pretty clean, absolutely no dust.

A smaller, 1/6 less powerful version of that doesn't sound too bad but for $39, take it at face value, it's not a smoking hot deal but it is pretty good regardless if you have nothing and need something that works just fine.

Read the manual when you get it. I bought when it was $29 and loved it for that price. The girlfriend never reads any manuals and is essentially clueless at life, so used the filter to vacuum water and ruined it. I never bought the replacement filter because it was 1/2 the total cost, so might just get another unit and leave that one for wet only.

Any expert comparison with this from Costco, just for functionality? In store it goes for $50 when coupon is up. It does not come with wet filter whatever that means. TIA
