Does anyone know if this soundbar "times out" and turns off automatically if not used for several minutes?
It doesn't seem so, but maybe someone will have a Kill-A-Watt to check power draw to determine this.

My other cheap HiSense soundbar synced automatically with the Roku TV remote. Anyone know if TCL does the same with Roku TVs?
It works great with my TCL Roku TV over HDMI. Got this to replace my 8 year old LG that was optical only. Sounds alright after lowering bass on subwoofer a bit, not great but good enough for bedroom, and won't need soundbar remote anymore. The power on and off sounds are kind of annoying but might be able to lower their volume I was reading.

Got two, sound was decent for $50, worked and then didn't the next day, tried everything, optical, ARC, it would show on TV with ARC but no sound. Ended up just returning both units. Got the Samsung HW-Q7CB/ZA-RB from Verdi with the 15% off for signing up for SMS - shipped for $93, worth the extra $43 IMHO.
Maybe the reason you did not get sound from the TV ARC port is because this soundbar does not have an ARC input.

From the TCL website: Inputs: Aux/Audio (3.5mm) Cable, Optical/Toslink, USB

Gotta look under the name TCL Alto 5+

Sounds lackluster, but what do you expect for this price.

The sound from this soundbar is about right for $50 - the highs are high and tinny, there's no midrange, and the subwoofer is overenthusiastic and makes muffled noises during dialogue. I have it on the lowest setting and it's still too much. There also seems to be a slight delay with the subwoofer which makes these issues more noticeable.

My biggest issue, however, is with the voice that tells you when you're powered on/off and what input you've selected. You can turn it down but not off, and it's very annoying.

I just pulled the trigger on the Alto R1 from Amazon; I'll compare the two when it comes and return the one I like least. This is for a bedroom TV, so I really don't care about bombastic bass.
Just to follow up - the TCL Alto R1 is much better and there's really no comparison. The soundbar has more heft to it and is better constructed, it has midrange and non-tinny highs, and even has a decent amount of bass response for the size and form factor. Plus, my biggest peeve is alleviated in that there's no silly voice telling me when its turning on or off. Setup was a total breeze as well. It's a good option for a bedroom TV application.

Downsides to the R1 - it may not offer enough bass for a living room home theater, and you must have a Roku operating system to use it.

I haven't even opened mine yet, not after all the complaints. I'll probably return it with that cheap fiberglass mattress in a box that is on the way.

TCL has multiple sound bars called Alto 5+ 2.1, see earlier post. This thread appears to be referring to the version with HDMI ARC.

I did not see a 3D view on the Walmart product page. They do call it Model TS5010 and looking at the manual for that model downloaded from TCL, it does not mention or show an ARC input or include an HDMI cable. It does include Aux, Optical, IR Pass-Through, and Power cables.

I ordered it yesterday and it was delivered today but decided it was too big for the 32" TCL Roku TV in my living room that I mostly watch. I'd look at the box to see if it showed the ports but it is sealed in a plastic bag which I don't want to open to make it easier to return to the store.

Shows OOS now.

See the attached images for the 3D view. It definitely shows an HDMI port.

You might as well open your box if you want to confirm, since Walmart will probably open it anyway to make sure it hasn't been tampered with and all parts are present.

Also, it's still available for shipping & pick up from stores near me, so it's not OOS everywhere.

This thing sounds like crap. The subwoofer is overbearing, muddled and the sound bar itself is compromised of only the highest of treble. The mid range frequencies are almost non-existent. You can't get decent mids out of a tweeter or a subwoofer, I wish manufacturers would stop trying. This will be the fastest return I've ever done.
Could not agree more. This appears to be a black friday spec release and it shows (and sounds). The bar sound is actually equivalent to the built in TV speakers and the sub is just as bad, and since its a bluetooth connection to the wireless sub its actually a half-step out of sync.

I expected after all these years for this stuff to at least be equivalent to an Amazon Echo 4th gen but now I'm tempted to just get one or two more of those and pair them up with the tv and call it a day.

Why would it have hdmi if no ARC? But even if no ARC, the optical wouldn't work a day later either.

I returned two and they didn't open either of them to check anything, even the one that was unsealed.
