Been swapping for years. Basically just switch between parties at same location via different emails and can even use different CCs if you wish. Doesn't matter even if other party is second, just can't go primary party to primary party w/o it being a renewal or breaking the listed rules. Same applies to Sam's Club.
It can make it messy, but as long as you keep proof of the membership number it was purchased under, never been a problem. They don't say can't return just because your membership is expired and don't have to have a current one to return stuff. Pro tip: Take pictures of reciepts as they often fade and while it isn't a big deal if bought under current membership, it makes it difficult if you do get new number every 12-18 months.
Is there a way to use this offer for renewal? I heard people cancel/swap with house members but not sure if Costco block them?

I think my membership expired in 2022 may or June... Assuming I can't get in on this
edit: the people downvoting me have no idea about the 18 month cooldown. if my membership expired in June, likely I wouldn't qualify... and I'm unsure if stacksocial would help refund
another edit: I see that redemption terms are thru January.... just last week, it was only until mid November for this same deal. seems like I should be eligible no problem then, unless they give me a hard time for having been a secondary member since my old membership expired

Does it matter if you have a credit card?

This is great. Thank you.
Let me try this. Mine is expiring at the end of this month.

How do you swap every year if it takes 18 months to quilify as a new member again?

You are welcome. Just review the rules of the deal. One can even purchase now and wait to start it, just keep track of dates and keep in mind the delay for getting $40 GC.
