I purchased this tablet when it first went on sale last week - it came in on Monday and I've been messing around with it for the past few days. Figured I would post my impressions/experiences here for anyone considering the purchase.

TL;DR - Unless you're a power user (you know who you are), this is more than enough tablet for anything you would ever want to do with it. The hardware is great bang for your buck, and maybe impossible to beat at this price. However, the software modifications from Lenovo, as well as the limitations of Android itself, mean that true multi-window multitasking is still janky as hell, so I would not recommend it if that is something that is important to you.

-----------------------

In more words:

The hardware is amazing for the price. The ~13" display on this thing is great and actually offers a different-enough experience from using a phone to justify the tablet's existence - something that I don't really think can be said for the plethora of ~10" options at this price point. The screen is an LCD (not OLED), so there is color shift when looking at this from an angle, and even at the edges of the screen when looking at it straight on (due to its sheer size). However, when in use and not just pixel peeping, it's really not something I personally notice, and is a fair tradeoff for not having to worry about OLED burn-in (at least, for me). It's "only" 60Hz, but for 95% of users (and probably 99% of use cases for the other 5%), that's enough.

The processor, while maybe not top-of-the-line, bleeding-edge, is again "fast enough" for anything 95% of people are going to do with it (the other 5%, you know who you are), and happily powers through general tasks without any hiccups. The 8GB of RAM on this model is the real unicorn here, and makes Android and any apps you have run happily and smoothly. The speakers are also a real highlight, and sound great.

The cameras are... well... cameras, but I'm not sure that's actually something folks really care about on a tablet.

The software running on this thing is Lenovo's customized version of Android (called "ZUI," I think). It's mostly stock, but does include some pretty low-level modifications to how Android handles multi-window multitasking, including how you actually navigate the core UI (think: the parts of the UI that stay the same regardless of the launcher). It's meant to bring stock Android's rather opaque multitasking features more to the forefront and make them more accessible and easier to use. In practice, though, it means you have to use the tablet the way Lenovo wants you to use it, and anyone who wants to try and customize things will quickly find that stuff starts to break quite spectacularly if you try to disable features or revert back to a closer-to-stock experience. Using a third party launcher is just... not really an option here. So prepare to learn some new hoops to jump through.

Sadly, despite Lenovo's efforts, multi-window multitasking is still a VERY bad experience on Android. It legitimately feels like a hack to use it - and not in a good way. Apps do not smoothly resize AT ALL, and most really do not like non-standard aspect ratios. Even something as basic as Google Maps ends up looking legitimately broken when in a 1:1 window. I am honestly surprised by how bad it is still in 2023. For me, it's to the point where I will honestly just entirely ignore/abandon this feature and just use all the apps full screen, multitasking just by switching back and forth between apps using gesture navigation (quite smooth thanks to the processor and ample RAM).

I could say more, but I think that's the main points and I'm bored of writing already (lol).

If I was a younger man with more interest/time to burn, I would look into trying to get stock Android up and running on this thing to get rid some of the Lenovo ZUI features that I will 100% never use. However, I'm kind of past the point in my life where I can burn away weeks of my time sitting in a dark room with a terminal window open trying to get things "just right," so it is what it is.

First, your kid is spoiled
No kid needs a s7+ level of tablet

Second, this would be a downgrade from the tab s7+, not sure why you'd make this change

I have this but 256MB version and I love it. I also have owned S7, S8 ultra, and now S9 but I like this Lenovo Tab P12 more since it's the right size for my note-taking.

Having a tablet for me is just for entertainment, youtube, surfing internet on the road, checking emails....and most of it I do it on my S23 Ultra phone. All works and other business, my PC and laptop take care of them in much better way.

AMEX was giving $100 with a $500 purchase, so I had this tablet with some monitors. Great tablet and I'm thinking of putting my Samsung S9 up for sale soon...LOL
Interested in the S9.

Tried to purchase, but it keeps kicking out my credit cards.

Even tried Paypal & Amazon Pay. Guess it thinks I'm a fraudster.
They making your purchase on a regular computer. For some reason it wouldn't let me make a payment using my iPad.

S7 plus also has crappy washed out Netflix because Samsung can't properly implement hdr on its tablets or phones

Yeah, I couldn't make my purchase on my phone. Had to use a PC. But I ended up placing the order with a chat representative so they could stack all the coupons

Is this equivalent to Samsung S8 or s7
NO and YES.

NO:
CPU, hard drive, etc, glass, screen etc... are all not as good as the S8 or S7. This is a BIG BOY... so you need to compare it to that S8+ or S7+. And while Samsungs are much faster this is fast enough.

YES:
They both run Android 13. Your experience will be similar.

Personally I think the size of the P11 Pro 2nd Gen of 11" is much better suited as a tablet and it has a faster CPU and a OLED screen. But if you like super sized tablets this looks good to me.

p.s.
I have a P11 Pro 2nd Gen, S8+, HP X2 Chrome Book tablet, Fire Tablet, Hauwai M5 and M3.

$250 vs $450. My needs are met with the cheaper option (and I can get the keyboard case bundle for not much more).

Maybe this guy can answer your questions better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAGZK0lPPvM

I tried on 2 computers and a different browser. And 3 different cards, plus Amazon Pay and Paypal.

I guess I could try using my wife's account.

This should be fine for all of those uses. Fwiw, idk if the various versions of vanced will continue to work either if Youtube continues fighting adblockers like they're currently doing (I begrudgingly pay for Youtube Premium), but certainly worth checking out. If you just want a basic device, pay for a more basic device, and this should be good for media viewing.

I'm continuously on the hunt for a laptop replacement, and while this price is tempting (since I know it'll largely be used for browsing, typing, and videos while costing like 1/3 of what I just spent) I'm finally getting a chance to try out the S9+ and it's just so nice and smooth. I'm sure it's just my eyes, but I'm having a harder time going back to lower refresh rate displays with slower pixels (i.e. ghosting), the OLED on the higher end Samsungs is really nice. I've also seen some reviews suggesting the battery life on this P12 is just ok. But then again, less than $300, better than dirt cheap Android tablets like the Fire line.

theres other things out there that work great besides vanced. i just was being discreet.
