It does support AV1 Decoding and ARM based DOCs are supporting that for a very long time and that information is available in their official site, ARM's official page for Mali G68.
Don't make up stuffs which you have no clues about.
Mediatek Dimensity 7050 does not support AV1 video playback.
Supported video codecs are HEVC, H.264, MPEG-1/2/4, VP-9
https://www.mediatek.com/products...nsity-7050

There are other Dimensity SOCs that do support AV1, such as the 1000 series.

would this be considered an upgrade from a S5e? I know the S5e has an AMOLED display... but I have been looking for something a bit bigger (closer to the 12" size).

Just an FYI. I have owned multiple OLED and IPS LCD tablets in the past. The difference is night and day. Once I got used to OLED tablets, I couldn't go back to LCD. Some of the LCD displays (s7 for example) are better than others (S7 FE is way worse), but OLED is just so much nicer to consume media. LCD is better for reading fine text as most of the OLED panels don't have the best subpixel placement for sharp text.

Also, it's not just the contrast that is a huge plus with OLED, it is also the viewing angles. Some of the LCD tablets I have owned like the S7 FE had terrible viewing angles where the brightness or colors would shift when viewed slightly off axis. It was bad enough that I immediately sold it. Very happy with my P11 Pro Gen 2 so far. It's OLED panel is not as good as the ones on the flagship Samsung tablets, but a huge step up from LCD panels. I also got the 128GB for around $260 shipped a while ago, and no other tablet compares to it at that price in terms of display quality.
Something I've recently come to appreciate with OLED tablets - less motion blur/ghosting. Tried both the OnePlus Pad and the iPad Pro 11, but the high refresh rate on both was ruined for me by the blur of slower pixel response times on their LCD screens, especially when scrolling text on web pages. There's more to OLED screens than just contrast and deep blacks. It may be a small thing but to me it makes a world of difference, especially when it comes to screens you'll be using close to your face.

Didn't think of that, but that's a great point.

Going from AMOLED to LCD might feel like a downgrade, though with how tech improves it might not be as bad. Performance should be better, more recent processor, more RAM, more recent version of Android, bigger battery. On the whole it should be an upgrade.

Benchmarks are a bit better on the FE, though not by a huge margin. FE has a 90Hz screen. Otherwise, it's mostly Samsung's tablet software that's the difference.

But the FE doesn't come with a keyboard, and if you want a similar size to the P12 then you want the more expensive FE+ for $600. Partially I think the FE+ isn't that great in general, but I think I'd rather get the P12 with a keyboard for half the price.

A $10 off $100 stacked for me with this coupon but I haven't checked out yet to see if it errors. I think I'll pass though with the 60hz display. I'm spoiled to devices with higher refresh rates.

It worked for me. I used a throwaway spam email to sign up and the code just popped up at the top of the screen ready for copy/paste. Didn't even have to wait. Entered both codes, tablet shipped and is arriving next Wednesday according to tracking. Used 10% back on a cash rebate site, too.

If you don't mind the lack of global ROM, you can get the Chinese version of this tablet (that has english) which has a :
Snapdragon 870
USB 3.2 (4K 60Hz video output)
144Hz display
1TB expandable memory

It's called Lenovo Xiaoxin pad 12.7 (you can find it on aliexpress)

I never bought any expensive stuff from AliExpress, is it safe to buy from there?
