If you're looking for this combo and the router it is a good price. The best standalone I've seen on the combo is 299 not counting hacks. So a router for 60 if you're wanting one is pretty solid

Good point. That's still $6.72 more plus means you need to return two items to get the deal with a double hack, but it does give the flexibility of being able to return one part if you get cold feet down the road.

You can swap-in the D-handle jig saw for the same price too.

Also I don't understand the down vote for using the hack. Did that hit a nerve? HD knows we do this and they do not care. They make money on the accessories and batteries, not the tools.

Is this drill overkill for household use?

At the product page, just select combo kit only. It'll prompt you to select a free tool. It's not free, just reduces the cost of each part to equal the final price. After you receive the products, return the one(s) you don't want and keep the others at their discounted price. All the tool makers are allowing it at HD

When a deal at HD has a free tool or battery, the total price is allocated across the main item and the free item based upon their current prices. If you only want one of the items (i.e., either the main item or the free item) then you can return the item you don't want and get a refund commensurate with the allocated price for that item. For instance if you pick a free item that is the same price as the main item then each item will price out at half price. If you pick a free item that is half the price of the main item, each item will price out at 1/3 off. Sometimes you can get free items that cost more than the main item so you get >50% discount.

NOTE that this "hack" only applies to items where the extra tool is listed as a free item and prices out separately. HD does a lot of bundled deals (including the one in this thread) where all the items price out together.

Probably. But that never stopped most of us!

Seriously though, this is a very powerful drill. I have one but also an M12 FUEL (hammer) drill that I use for most lighter things. I use the M12 far more often than the M18.

Pretty much this - the latest (3rd) gen M12 Fuel hammerdrill & impact driver are spicy units and even they are kind of overkill for a typical homeowner who might just be hanging a tv, shelves, drywall anchors, building benches, etc. But the M12s are a good deal less expensive than these - this is an ok price if you really need all 3 of these M18 tools (plus the batteries/charger), but yeah - total overkill.

I used my M12 hammer drill this summer to bore through 6x6 treated timbers. It is way overbuilt, but consider their target market for Fuel tools is not DIY.

There's always someone eager to lick HD's boots and claim that anyone who does a hack is a thief, etc etc...if HD at the corporate level was all that bothered by it, they'd just make it so the receipt doesn't show prorated, the way Lowe's does.
