This Bosch vs Dewalt DW779: I used to have DW779 with a stand. It was a good saw but it took way more space and no soft start. This Bosch has a soft start, more expensive, nicer and a bit more precise.

Thoughts on this vs DeWalt's?
I'd say the shortcomings of the dewalt (779/780) is dust collection and space required behind the saw.
To me these are downsides that don't matter unless you are planning on planting this saw in a garage, (if you are, i wouldn't recommend the dewalt b/c those two things are deal breakers)
There is some play on the rail that can cause 1/16-1/8" deflection during slide cuts if you don't actively apply even pressure, I think this is improved on the bosch.

That being said the dewalt can be incredibly accurate once you get used to it, I learned how to do a lot of finish carpentry from Youtube, and you still see (inside carpentry & finish carpentry TV) using the dewalt over other 'premium' miter saws despite sponsorship opportunities, I think that says a lot about the tool. Yeah there's times when i wished the Dewalt was better, but you can't go wrong if you can grab it under 300$

I had this stand or one almost identical to it that HD had on clearance years ago. Paired it up with a 779 that i caught on sale. Ended up selling them both for what i bought due to a move coming up. So tempting to pick this up.

So, the onlline reviews (videos) indicate the Bosch dropped the ball with the dust collection mechanism. Same issue with the Ridgid R4222 (cheaper saw but on sale, too).

Wouldn't you be better off with getting the stand for $150 more?

I got in on that clearance deal from Lowe's. If you need the saw AND the stand, that deal wasn't any better than this one. I ended up having to buy a stand locally from a private seller for $250, so I really didn't make out any better. I would think that, if you got this deal and didn't need the stand, you could easily sell the stand for $225-$250, making this deal just about as good as that Lowe's clearance deal. Hell...if you have military discount or a 10% off coupon from Home Depot credit card, you could make out even better on this deal
