This thing is a beast. Dont listen to those that say it isnt.I dug atleast 50 holes with countless hours on the thing, and it was hard clay. Its a no brainer at this price.

I don't own one but, a few years back we had a contractor come in to do some concrete work to extend my driveway. This is what he used for help break up a lot of the ground. I was laughing because he was abusing it so badly but it worked. He said he goes through about 2 a year and it was cheaper than buying a commercial version. When it died, he'd just go and pick up another one from the box store.

It did actually die during my drive way, but you could tell it truly was rode hard and put away wet. He said that was about 7 months old which is really impressive when he abused it about every day.

If i had need, i'd buy one. Smilie

I paid like $170 a few months ago for a Greenworks tiller like this. Though that one is 13.5 amp, and it looks like the tines on this are thinner than my Greenworks.

Quote from SlashOverkill :
I got one of these last spring to till a Garden and wasn't impressed.
My area is hard impacted red clay soil with loads of crabgrass and the tiller just seemed to want to bounce ontop instead of dig in.
It would probably be fine for smaller areas with looser soil or to amend soil.

Pull it, don't push it.

Love my Sun Joe tiller. Amongst experiences, used it to till ip hard clay/dirt before digging it out and pouring a concrete pad. Saved a lot of effort.
That's why I was looking for one--to dig out for a paver patio. Glad to hear the Sun Joe can handle clay.

How does it help compacted clay soil where nothing grows? We till it and then replace the soil or just add more good soil with grass seeds?

This is a big deal for me. My first Frontpage posting. Glad I could finally give back to this community that has caused me to spend so much money unnecessarily!

I 100% agree with the majority here. This thing works great. I've had it for a few years now to till the garden area for planting. The first time we used it we had to get through heavily compacted soil that had an above ground pool on it & this thing chewed it up. We previously had been using a pole tiller by hand & that was rough work. Stopping to catch your breath & calluses on your hands not to mention sweating like a pig. Like others said it tills better while pulling it backwards. You will need a bit if strength to use it. This is not a machine for old ladies. If ours broke we're getting another for sure.

Good tiller and good deal. Tilling is still work and no getting around that. It's not going to magically break rocks or not get clogged by ivy and roots
