Most of the "14th gen" chips are basically rebadged 13th gen, but the 14700K has four more cores than the 13700K.

They're E cores, and most games aren't built to effectively use that many cores, but it's a notable difference for CPU heavy productivity work.

While I consider myself THE biggest storage speed freak on the planet, what on earth do you need 5th Gen solid state speeds for? Just curious.

I'm not a bundle person. Each computer component is too important to be forced to accept something different than what your research shows to be the best for your budget and needs just to get a bundle price. In this case if the mobo doesn't have a 5th Gen ssd slot then it's not one I'd buy today with 5th Gen ssds on the way.

Must have gotten a Golden Sample, applied some Liquid Metal, 280mm water pump cooler Corsair,

Slight over lock all cores 5.8Ghz all day stable. I love MSI boards especially their reliability.

$500 using $50 off code.

I had lying around, a RTX 4080 and a 1000 Platinum Seasonic PSU, and a Samsung 980 with Heatsink.

Fresh install of 11 Pro.

Went from old machine of a 3080 Ti with an 8700K at 4.8Ghz maybe 120FPS at 1440p in Black Ops to 200+ in the same same settings.

Just get Liquid Metal and make good contact with the heatpump.
Would also like to know where to get $50 coupon

Dang these deals for never being Mini-ITX motherboards and dang them again because the closest MicroCenter is like 7 hours away!
If you drive twice as fast, it's only 3 1/2 hours away!

Has anyone ever seen one of these Micro Center deals with a Gigabyte motherboard in the bundle? Gigabyte is the only motherboard I use for my personal builds and I've been waiting for one to come along.

I love bundles and these are good parts individually.

Too bad this isn't Gen 5. I (wrongly, apparently) thought all Z790 was.

Looks like a leftover motherboard that was included in this bundle. Hard pass...

Don't be an idiot and try to do liquid metal like one of the posts above. LM is serious stuff and will kill your CPU, MoBo, and GPU if you're not careful when just a minute amount gets on anything but the chip itself. He is just bragging because he can do it but everyone else needs to stay away from it or you'll just be wasting $550.

Here is a youtube video [youtube.com] from a GPU repair guy of an idiot that killed his brand new RTX 4090 with it.

Is this a good deal for the start to a new gaming pc? mine is too long in the tooth. An i5-6600k with a GTX970. No productivity work other than MS OFFICE stuff

You're better off with AMD 7800x3d CPU which will give you similar or even better performance while running much cooler. This combo is for those that need both productivity (development or content creation) and gaming performance. Wait for Microcenter or Newegg to have a bundle on it.
