One of the best eInk writing experiences out there, but the software needs work. Notes are trapped in the Kindle ecosystem and the import/export method for your own documents is minimal.
Decent hardware -- abysmal software. Your notes are locked into their ecosystem, it's impossible to change many settings (like background paper type) after the fact, hard to migrate anything in or out. And the hardware is closed, so third party/independent devs can't write software for it. No idea if anyone has hacked it yet --- doubtful, given litigious Amazon + high cost of the unit + so few adopters.
I wish they offered the 20% off for Amazon device trade in on these.

Apologies but nothing came up on initial searches: can I annotate a personal PDF document and export this annotated PDF as a separate, single file?
Yes, but the process is fairly convoluted. Generally getting files on to the device is straightforward and getting them off is anything but.

While the export of the notes is annoying is true as indicated by most. But this is the first Kindle over the last few years that has actually gotten me to start to read. It's big and most importantly it is responsive. Unlike other Kindle, the page flip and overall control are very smooth on the scribe. I was never able to get into reading with the kindle due to the lagginess.

Tested Remarkable 2 and found that the eraser has some delay in action..need to check if scribe also has the same issue...
Sort of, it will erase things pretty quickly, but when you're erasing a section larger than an inch or so, it will take a second to refresh that template.

how is it as a kindle ebook reader? My wife loves her oasis. I thought she may love this as a bigger screen upgrade if it has warm light and all that; and the note taking would be a bonus. I want it at like $150 tho maybe without premium pen
To me, I find the reading experience better than my Paper White 8" and although not as sharp as the Oasis for contrast, I do prefer the larger screen on the Scribe.

The note-taking is what I wish Samsung, Microsoft, and Apple were able to do with their devices. It really is a fantastic device for that.

I have pulled the notes off of it when I exchanged the base model for the midlevel with the smart pen.

This is the first kindle I've ever owned and I absolutely love it! I am back to reading books than spending endless scroll on dumb social media apps .. I tried reading on iPad but there is too much distraction of other apps (I know it's a me problem not everyone else) but kindle allowed me to focus on just reading!

I also like the note taking feature although I use it just to write love notes for my wifey .. for my usage it's great!
I loved this device so much that I ended up buying one for my wife as a Mother's Day gift. I'm just a simple reader not a super user so I can't agree or disagree with others on the software or other issues

Tested both - Scribe and remarkable 2. Couldn't find any difference between eraser function. kindle has a drawback of exchanging notebooks between pc app and scribe. The exchanged books show immediately if not after clicking the sync tab but the notebooks created in kindle can be shared only by email. Please let me know if anyone has solved this issue.
How's it for doing whiteboarding during online-meeting?

So one can't export converted handwriting text to, say, onedrive or Google drive?

I've been looking for a way to keep my notes available, tidy, and available online. Right now, I just write in a notebook and then forget to scan them with adobe scan.

The main reason I prefer e-ink devices for note taking (over ipad or tablet), is that heat emission from the screen makes my palm uncomfortable after a while...

Thanks, great device and this price got me to pull the trigger on the 32gb.

If there's a better deal for cyber monday or BF, that's fine, its within the return window so you can either return it or ask for an adjustment.

1. What kind of warranty does Amazon offer for this refurb?
2. Does it come with the replacement tips that come with the non-refurb item?
