I had perused the endless options on Amazon for a long time before finding this set in Walmart and figured it had to be at least decent for them to use shelf space for it.

It was green instead of red when I got it but it looks like the same exact set otherwise. I've been very happy with the quality and selection of bits. The screw driver is comfortable and the tweezers have held up.

The spudgers and pick are higher quality than the ones that come in phone screen kits online. They should probably be considered consumables anyway but I also frequently misuse and abuse them and they're pretty gnarled up by now.

And it's nice having a sim tool in nestled into an object large enough that you can keep track of it. And not that it matters much in use but it is easier to grip than all of the free ones that come in most sim kits. It's even useful on the newest iPhones - if you want to poke holes in the speaker. Try it next time you're in an Apple Store. The Genius's really appreciate it.
I wonder if those bits are any good. Usually the ones that are shiny like this are very soft.

FWIW, I use this set for work and the bits are great. Made in Taiwan. Same $10. https://www.harborfreight.com/33-...93916.html
I've found that not to be the case with this one. In the probably close to 5 years I've owned it the bits I've used to open iPhones and laptops and random video game stuff have all held up great. If the ifixit kit has bits or tools this one doesn't and they're the ones you need then obviously it's worth spending more to get them. But the durability and build quality on this set is fine for personal use for repairing electronics. Especially in regards to the screwdriver.

Actually one thing this does lack is reach. I've run into screw holes that were narrow enough that only the tip of the bit fit in but too deep for the skinny part to reach the screw. You'd usually need a dedicated screwdriver for those.

I mean, for $10, can't hurt to have this around. The reviews aren't overly bad as well.

This looks exactly like a set I got off Amazon with another brand. Works great. Is it the highest quality? No. Does it come in handy when I need some strange bit to open my Xbox controller that one time I need to. Yep, sure does.

Afaik ifixit runs sale only during BF. Prolly I'll pony up for it. I'm done with poor tools. Not saying this is poor but it's worthwhile even if you take apart once not strip a bolt

Seems like it has the uncommon penta heads which macbooks use so the average folk cannot open them. In for one

Pentalobe bits come in pretty much all these electronics repair kits. They come in the $10 Harbor Freight kit and the $5 kit I got off Amazon. I'll agree with the other commenter that if you're going to use it more than once, I'd grab an iFixit kit on Black Friday instead. These cheap bits are incredibly soft and will strip out at a handful of uses. I guess on the plus side, you can't really strip screws with these. 🤷

Anyone have this particular set? Their previous precision set had tips that were so soft, they easily tore apart when you had to use any type of force to remove a screw. If I remember correctly, Home Depot's set (Husky) and HarborFreight's version (Pittsburg) were made by the same company and had the same problem. Just wondering if they improved it.

Edit: HD and HF sets are better quality now.

This is a great set. It's my go-to for electronics repair. It has a useful variety of bits and the drive handle is comfortable with a stable magnetic hold on the bit. The organized case alone makes this worth the $10.

Basically the same experience. I also have the green case. This is my go to for replacing key fob batteries or laptop screws. I found it on clearance for $2.50 before COVID hit. Recommend

First of all, holy crap, after all these years, this is my first deal that went FP. Thanks staff, glad that I finally contributed.

Desynergy to answer your question, depends on what you use it for. These precision kits are meant for consumer electronics like cell phones and laptops. If you are going to use it to take apart a car then it will for sure break.
When I was looking for tools in store I was trying to find something for a broken laptop. What caught my eye is the included Magnetizer / Demagnetizer, those things by itself is usually $5+ at Home Depot. The tool set worked fine for me without issues.

Thanks all.
