My concern is if brand new means sealed in box. eBay is notorious for selling open box items as brand new.
I can't argue with that, I've had it happen from Amazon as well. I have purchased a refurbished Garmin watch from eBay, but it was labeled as refurbished, but if they had said it was brand new I wouldn't have been able to tell because it literally looked brand new, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it in all packaging made it look like it had never been opened and I've had zero problems from it more than a year since then.
It's worth specifying: Removing the barometer means the 5 can't track climbing stairs. I have the 4 and really there isn't anything this device does that makes you feel like it needs a better screen. The more advanced models with maps the amoled makes a huge difference but I've never had any issues with mips screen for seeing time or fitness data

Did you mean days instead of hours? Otherwise I think you're severely misinformed
There is "gps-mode" which is in hours but "regular-mode" is in days.
Some models do guide you on a run I believe, I'm not sure about this one.
However where I find the GPS useful it's when you are on a run or on a bike. Then the watch turns on GPS to gather data along with other metrics. This gives you a better idea of your effort along with other useful data.
It also presents a map of your pace at the end of your excersice.
