Bought this same exact set in 2016 at Macys for around the same price. Still use em and they're really great.

Is this try ply stainless steel.. does anyone know if it's worth it to spend a little more to get a try ply set?

Alot less money. All Clad are great, but expensive for the minor differences with these. Costco sometimes has Kirkland branded sets that are comparable to these, or better, similar to AllClad, for a bit more. I've been using one of their sets for 25 years without issue, and with a great cooking experience. Around this price.

Only the base has an aluminum core. I'm guessing you're asking if the whole piece is uniformly triply, which it's not. These kinds of SS cookware run the risk of the base separating after a while. I would say it's better to wait for a true triply set, but the price of this set is fairly acceptable too if your budget is limited

Once you start cooking on tri ply, you are gonna know the difference and never go back. Wait for Costco tri-ply set to drop to $150-160, much better investment.

These look like the cheap ones. Macy's puts the real tri ply stuff on sale around this time of year for a similar price if you keep an eye out. Note even those are NOT as good as all clad etc. I have the tricply aet, and the larger pans warp, BUT, Cuisinart does stand behind the warranty and sent me a new one when I complained, so that was cool. My all clad pan of about the same age has not warped but was about the cost of the whole Cuisinart set...

Products from 25 years ago versus those of today are totally different, even within the same model line or brand. So there is a difference.

Case in point: My mother's Vision glass pot lid from 30 years ago is heavy as heck. The latest version is almost half the weight and already chipped on the side after less than 2 years of use. The 30 year one doesn't have a single chip scratch.
Another one: Pyrex glass of the old vs the new are made from different materials with the old being way better in terms of thermal envelopes and resistance. They even changed the logo to a lower case p instead of the capitalized P.

I've read that old glass pots have lead in them so we're not supposed to use them.Same with stainless steel plus it has a lot of other contaminants that leach into the food. Not sure what to use at this point, ugh

BJ's has Cuisinart 11 Piece Professional Stainless Steel [bjs.com] Set (Model 897-11BJ) for ~$80 until 11/19. It has one 8" nonstick skillet in it, though.

Do you (or anyone) have any experience with the calphalon tri plys? Looks like this is a pretty good deal with $40 off on the premiere 12pc set: https://www.costco.com/.product.4000192420.html

Can anyone comment on whether this or the tri ply or all clad sets would work with an induction oven? Are the bottoms magnetic?

Forgive the ignorance!

Usually in the product page it should be mentioned if induction compatible and usually they are compatible unless mentioned otherwise.

I don't have first hand experience with this one, seems decent, also oven safe up to 450F, if that's a concern.

No really can't compare the two. These are not tri-ply.
