The single minor and avoidable pitfall is making sure you have the right amount of wire stripped. There's room for error, but wire nuts are slightly more forgiving about that aspect. I love these little things.

On the side of the connector there is a " Ruler" of exactly how much it needs to be removed ( in these pictures is the 11 with the arrow

Can these be used on aluminum stranded, like those on smart switches and wall timers?

Would these make it safer to install light switches or ceiling fans without turning off the breaker switch? Asking for a stupid lazy friend.

Yes, it's a particularly nice feature of these that you can easily connect stranded wire with solid.

I've used 2,3,5 connectors for basement finish and switch/light replacements… these are diy'ers best friend. I wish they also made a 4 connector version, I've needed them a few times and had to use the 5 connector instead.

This is not an issue (if you are using the correct wire). Max wire gauge for the 412 is 12, which is only capable of up to 20 amps anyway. The reason the 612 is higher rated amperage is because of 10 gauge wire.

Most home wiring is 12 or 14 gauge.

I've lived and been in many homes sheetrock being nailed on the ceilings and walls that didn't have problems. It all is relative to the nail used. Most old timers worth their salt knew regular 3d sheetrock nails weren't sufficient to hang it on the ceiling without spacing the nails correctly by taking the load into consideration. I know you probably mean this as a joke, but sheetrock has been nailed to the ceiling through the 1980s/90s when Philips head screws started to become a preferred fastener. It wasn't until the last 20 years screws had become the main fastener for decking. Before then, many people with new decks would have to hammer a few nails flush with the decking again due to a lot of wood movement the first couple years. Until screws are cheap and easy enough to for shingling an entire roof, nails will always be a good option in many fastening situations.

Wago are cleared for stranded cable and reuse. I don't think most wire nuts are.

This is an awesome price per lever nut. But I doubt any house needs 100 two wire connectors. It's worth paying 2x more per piece but getting an assortment.

For sure it is. You'll have on-hand what you need for any situation for quite a while. Those $0.24 2 wire connectors are extremely expensive if you never actually realize any value from them.
