Direct drive turntables are for DJs that want to scratch and need the torque and accuracy of a direct drive connection to the spindle. Decoupling the spindle from the motor isolates the platter from motor vibrations and is preferable unless your scratching or you have a very very high end motor.
But the RT85 is $500*. Buying this and the acrylic platter later, you'd spend $503

🤩 fantastic deal! the cartridge alone is around $200 and the turntable is well-reviewed.

Great turntable. I have the RT82, which I'm happy with. The RT84 has the Ortofon 2M Blue Cartridge. Great price.

Buy this and then down the road for $120 you can buy the acrylic platter and it's essentially the RT85

Looks likes it's on sale on Fluance's site as well. May pull the trigger on this, waiting for a sale on a decent TT.

Oh man. Tempted to finally take the step up from the AT-LP60 that I started with. Looks like it has auto stop, too, which is nice.

Any considerations for someone who knows not a ton about this stuff?

I see that this does not include a preamp unless you pay an additional $100.

How does this compared to TT's in the $1000 range, I've been waiting to get a TT for a while now, have a decent listening setup, don't need a pre-amp (have a Denon X3800H).

EDIT cause I can't read good

IMO This is best upper mid tier, the tier 1k range is prob a Rega Planar 2 or Project Debut Carbon - there's likely some YT comparisons and for sure plenty of Reddit dorking out and arguing to read through.

I have an RT82 and it sounds fantastic thru an art preamp and denon x2400h.
