except that this $1500 2021 macbook pro with 32gb ram and the m1 pro will run circles around a $1599 2023 macbook pro with 8gb ram and the m3. It can run more external monitors, it has 4x the RAM, the SSD is faster, it has TB4 ports, etc. It is quite simply a more capable machine.

The more comparable 2023 model (m3 pro, base CPU, 36gb ram) is going to set you back $2400.
Price seemed like a great deal about a month ago, for this configuration and for being not refurbished, from woot here https://slickdeals.net/f/16975204-apple-14-2-macbook-pro-m1-pro-8-core-cpu-14-core-gpu-32gb-ram-512gb-ssd-late-2021-1499-99-at-woot

There will probably be better deals coming soon, but I don't want to wait and either not get a better deal on this configuration, or miss out on a deal so I'm going to go ahead and pick this up.
I got in on the woot deal, they were new not refurb, good machine and you can call Apple to reset the purchase date for Apple care options and 1 year warranty

I think I'm gonna jump on this, but would it be worth getting apple care in it or a different sort of similar thing?
Nah, no need. My 2012 MBP still runs line a champ, but slow as molasses compared to my M2 MBA

i would say yes because of how delicate the screen is. i had an ipad pro and a tiny crack in the metal ruined the whole screen and i had to get a replacement for $500. that plus spilling any water or any other kind of mishaps, its better to have some kind of insurance. i have never purchased applecare before, i think its kind of scammy, but i want to be able to wake up and not find my screen is completely fried or drop it by accident and then i have to pay some absurd amount for a replacement

then again, i didnt have applecare for any of my older laptops, and saved around $1000 over 10 years (while i lost two laptops that couldve been fixed, so no idea if i wouldve been in the red or not with applecare)

How future proof is this machine? I have a macbook air M1 GPU binned model but 16GB of ram/256GB HD and its been doing well for me. I mainly use it internet, excel, office, photoshop (not HUGE files but decent size TIFFs) and was thinking of upgrading. Will the bined down CPU/GPU really be noticed for me?

I like the portability of my MacBook Air but hate the 400 nit screen.

I have the m1 pro with 16gb, which I got with 25% employee discount for a price of 1500$. Intel to m1 was a generational leap, within m1 its not much different anyways.

Is this deal better than the refurbished woot deal of 16GB ram and 1TB for $1,399? I am still under return window for the woot purchase.

How does one get the 1TB version? Also, what's the price after applicable coupon?

Pro motion display, a larger screen and thinner bezels may be what you notice most. Plus more ports.

16gb version here; battery isn't as advanced as original. It performs so well, but the battery even with some aggressive options (dimmed screen the big one), I'm not seeing the same charge hold as even 6 months ago

Return it and get the micro center 14" 10-Core M1 Pro certified for $1350 if you have one nearby. I picked one up today and it had 2 battery cycles.

Don't think it was posted to SD so they still have a ton of inventory in SoCal. SD effect will probably hit soon if this gains traction but I won't be the one to post a thread on it.
